Back after 8 years!

Where to begin! I used to post here (and MLPTP) years ago as BabyTwilight. I'm not sure if any of the same people still use this board, but a big "hello" to anybody who remembers me!

I collected G1 MLP as a teenager and young adult. I stopped collecting shortly after G3s made their appearance. Gradually I sold off my collection.

The combination of having a very young daughter now, and having worked with kids, I've become nostalgic for MLP again. I'm starting to remember all of my favorites and missing them a bit. I'm hoping to find them again, to treasure and pass on to my daughter when she's old enough to be trusted. Haha. Just browsing around, it seems like prices have gone way up since I've left.

I am curious, though: How do you guys find the community now - with bronies and the G4 craze? The kids that I know are obsessed with G4, the show, and "original characters." They have zero interest in G1 or MLP figures. Do you guys end up converting them? Are there original G1 collectors enjoying the new show? What are the MLP fairs like now?

Welcome back! I was a collector back then but never came to the boards so I'm unfamiliar.

My niece loves g4 but is still really interested in g1 toys and seeing my displays and still loves wearing g1 tshirts (the early 2000s ones they had in Kohl's and Hot Topic). Maybe that's because she knew of my toys first, then got into the show later. I'm not sure.

Second niece from another sister who is 16 grew up with g3 and had a small herd. She's still solely a g3 fan (it's cute how it works out like that for most of us) but again she loves seeing all my g1 ponies and what I've bought each week!

I don't know what fairs used to be like, but this MLP was like 80% g1-g3 I want to say and like 20% FIM. There were definitely bronies there. I didn't see any being disrespectful though.

You've had quite a bit of a hiatus, then, haven't you? I think G4 has changed the landscape as a whole, in that Bronies are kind of separate from older-gen fans/toy collectors, seeing as how it's a community that formed independently from them.  I'm active here and on a few brony sites, and from what I've seen, there aren't many bronies who are interested in the toys.  They're more interested in the cartoons. Over the past couple of years, I've seen a lot of them show interest in some of the older MLP cartoons, mostly G1. But they tend to have more interest in vinyl figures and plushes than brushable toys, from my experience. So there aren't very many bronies who come here.

Of course, FiM has also gotten a lot of people interested in collecting the toys, such as myself and a number of others here. Most of my collection is G4 at the moment, but I got my first G3s last year, and my first G1s at the Fair this year.

Speaking of which, the Fair is still mostly G1-centric, although they had a lot of G3s, too, and some of the older and HTF G4s.

Hello there and welcome back.

I myself found out about the pony craze through G4 as well. Though I registered here exactly to AVOID the brony fandom, because it has shown its true colors one too many times, plus FiM as a whole has dropped in quality to the point of being pretty much a caricature of itself.

About the bronies, most of them are very different from the collector community here. Being part of/around it for years, I speak from personal experience when I say majority don't care or even insult the toys, and earlier generations of it, especially G3 (without even watching them, of course). They care more about the show and even more of the fanon that they develop from it (even if they don't notice it).

Aside all the fanrage, constant dramas, insane hypocrisy and delusional closed-mindedness they are a rather nice and creative bunch and can make some very epic things. It's a matter of finding them under the cargoship amount of noise-music, pornography, terrible ocs, cliché fanfictions and many more.

I got into ponies with G4 but found myself enjoy the older generation a lot more. While looking up G1 info I found this site. G4 has brought a lot of people here I'd say, but we don't have many bronies here because this forum still gears to past gens more. Hope you can find a good price for all the ponies you're looking to own again!
