Princess "Twins" factory mashup MIB
« on: August 01, 2015, 10:12:39 AM »
Hi!

I just wanted to show you guys this sealed MIB that I have in my collection.
I call them the Princess Twins!

I thought that you might wanted to have a look at them, as I think this is the only one that have been found in this box? (Does anyone know?  :lookround:) I got it on ebay a few years ago.

(Sorry for my bad camera)!

They are actually just two Honeysuckle flutter ponies, buth without their wings/wing modules. (And no mane eighter, so indeed very unfinished ). And they got packed in princess Pearls box, with two brushes and just one princess hat and princess ribbon. (Unfair to them!) ;)
What I remeber it looks a lot like how those strange happy tail (Bobby?) ponies got packed, so I guess that this MIB is from the same time?

I think they look cute together, what do you think?   :lovey:

So that's where it is! I did wonder who had it :) I remember them on ebay and still regret not bidding higher. I think Ember got a similar one at the same time?

Yes, I believe them to be the same kind of thing as the princess and happy tail variants - odds and sods packaged as best they could and sold cheap. The flutters do turn up loose occasionally, but aren't overly popular.

I think they are awesome! I think it's so bizzare that hasbro sold ponies without manes..even at a discount/surplus style. My parents would think me crazy if I wanted those as a kid.

Anyone know what these odd balls sold for in store? Were they like super cheap? Anyone remember buying ponies like these or other odd balls like the carded bagged ponies or princess/happy tail off balls in stores? I'd love to know more!

Yes I remember that there where another one for auction at the same time, but that one had just one pony in a (windy wing/summer wing?) box. ( I wanted that one to, but I had to decide what I could afford at that time).. :P I would be neat if we could see the other one to, I don't remember what it looked like! Maybe Ember still has it and want to share a picture?

This box was in quite a beaten state from the beginning, but I managed to carefully push it back into shape again without opening the sealing tape. I hope to be able to order a customized acrylic box for it so that it will display even better. A corner on the top is still a bit bent and need's help to stay in place...

I too would love to know..!

And I would REALLY love to see a princess oddball in box.. I wish there where more of them! :)

Thank you! :lovey: I'm very proud of them! They have such a cool history (even though we don't know exactly how and why they where sold like this, I hope we will find out! I wish there were a picture of them in the store, but I guess that since none had smartphones back then we will have to live without that. ;) )

Reaperfox remembers getting Bobbie when she was young and it was in a cheapy shop. I think she said she remembered the boxes just being piled up, but I would have to double check on that with her. I think they were significantly cheaper.

The oddballs all appear to be boxed (as far as we can tell with limited numbers surviving), but the some of left over MO ponies were sold in bags with a cardboard strip across the top. I have one of these and it still has the handwritten price label on it - £1.50 (at a time when retail for normal ones would have been £4-£5

To my knowledge, there are only four MIP oddballs known - the twin Honeysuckles in princess box, single Honeysuckle in Windy Wing box, Bobbie in a princess box with no mane but a ton of brushes, and one princess Amber variant in US Princess box with bushwoolie and accessories.

Wonderful ^.^ I saw these flutters on eBay and I was hoping to see them again :)

I remember PunkyKrista who was a collector of Princess variants. I bought her childhood Princess Amber, complete with accessories. She said she bought her in a cheap shop at the seaside.

Here is a picture, I added the elastic to her hat so she could wear it.

To add to your list, there are TWO MIB Princess Ambers (Gaspode had one) and I second Honeysuckle in a Cool Breeze box, she popped up on eBay after Ember1's pony :)

Here is Ember's flutter MIB

Here is BKC's MIB Princess Amber

Here is Gaspode's Princess Amber, she is the prongs out version.

Oh I must have missed that there was another boxed flutter shortly afterwards! Darn. Had forgotten about Gaspode's princess though (I was thinking of BKC's one)

These remind me of the pony set I got from "Ruxley Toys" in SE London in the 90s.

I think the wording was in Dutch, and it contained:

- Romper without symbol or happy tail mechanism
- Rosedust without shell button or wings and mismatched pink mane and tail
- yellow wand
- purple and turquoise princess crowns
- lilac princess damsel hat without elastic (edit - and plain ribbon)

That sounds exactly like them Starfall! Romper and Rosedust are definitely the oddball variations and the damsel hats didn't generally come with elastic (and often had plain ribbons and/or no glitter). Interesting that there were crowns also!
