These are very interesting drawers. I would like to see these ideas executed.

I mean this in the nicest way possible...but were these not dismissed as not actual concepts in the past? I could be thinking of something completely different so I do apologise if I am. Toy manufacturers usually only ask for outside pitch if they are doing something out with what their in house designers are used to working with (i.e. going to Faust as the toy line was going to have a major cartoon element...something G2 did not intend to have).

The design is very G3 in appearance and yet they were pitched at the time of G2 - he was clearly ahead of his time and also what want to be toy designer pitches a toy so wildly outside the customers demographic (high concept is one, festish pony is another). I have also seen all of these designs and artwork for sale repeatedly on ebay in the last couple of years - all sold as concept but not the sea ponies they are awesome!

To be honest, I tend to agree with Hathorcat.  I find the story very suspect.   I mean, anyone can make some fan art and say that it is concept sketches. And the ones in actual toy poses are just a little too on the nose.

His designs would have had no influence on the G2 line since it was already being produced at the time. You have to consider production time. Concept art to mass produced product reaching stores takes time. It does seem early to be revamping their line at that point.  Maybe 2008 if G2 had already flopped in US markets. They were still sold in Europe until 2003, though. The edgier pics could have been more of a joke than an actual pitch. He could have his dates slightly off too. I would look at his resume, and other jobs to verify the authenticity. If he was involved in similar projects, I could buy it. Nice art and interesting article.

I've seen these on eBay before (I believe there was a more outright "fetish"-y pony that isn't shown in this thread? I may be misremembering, though) and to be honest, I agree with Hathorcat too.. I've always thought something seemed a bit 'off' about these.

I do like the sea/merponies, though. 'w'

Well, whether the story is true or not, I have to say I really love the artwork. That strawberry pony is really cute and I love the sea ponies. The Edward Scissorhands pony is pretty radical!
