G1: Most and least popular/beloved/sought after ponies for each year?

Hi! Today I was pondering (when I should have been working) which ponies I would say are the most and least "popular" for each G1 year (in collecting years, not during production). I don't mean which one I or other members specifically like/don't like, but rather which ponies come across as generally the most beloved or sought after (as you peruse the Arena, eBay, etc.) and which tend to be the wallflowers of the collecting world.

This is a tricky question to answer b/c "beloved" and "sought after" aren't always the same thing. But you can consider both of these when you think about popularity. For instance, I would rank iconic ponies like Cotton Candy, Firefly, Glory, etc., as very widely loved even though they aren't especially sought after (as they are so easy to get). Thus they would rank high in popularity IMO.

I'm not including mail orders--just store releases.

So what do you think? Clearly there's no definite right or wrong. Here are my guesses:

Year 1: Minty (most), Snuzzle (least--although she's so cute!)
Year 2: Applejack (most), Sprinkles (least)
Year 3: Gusty (most), CJ or Tootsie (least--and Tootsie is one my favorites for this year!)
Year 4: Maybe . . . Fizzy? (most), Baby Frosting (least--ha ha! The pony people love to hate)
Year 5: Mimic (certainly gets the most buzz), TAF Fifi or Scoops? (least)
Year 6: Maybe . . . Night Glider??? (most), Banana Surprise (least)
Year 7: Red Roses (most) . . . ugh, maybe Glittering Gem? (least)
Year 8: I have no idea for most . . . maybe Pony Bride for least?
Year 9: ???? . . . maybe Princess Royal Pink or Purple for least?
Year 10: Maybe one of the Soda Sippin' ponies? . . . least . . . I have no idea . . .

Hmmm...I am not sure if I can do full years. But I ll try. (I am not including playsets as they cross so many years!)

Year 8: Oh thats hard - there are not that many that are super popular this year - maybe Raincurl
Year 9: Dazzleglow
Year 10: Again not loads that end up on the popular list - hmmmm Flowerbelle

Who doesn't love Parasol? (I can honestly say I'm not her biggest fan... LOL.)

It's all personal preferences. I can agree with Cat on the unpopular list

For year 8, isn't SHS Cha Cha one that commands quite a price? I would equate that with popularity...
Year 10... Thought Paradise Babies were quite sought after thus = popular.

I actually do love Parasol...but wow I found year 2 hard to find a pony who does not crop up as a favourite. Maybe the sea ponies would have been a better call?

As for year 4, problaby Baby Frosting, poor little girl

I think Lemon Drop (Year 2) isn't especially popular/sought after. (She's pretty cute, actually, but it's hard to find a nice one.) For Year 10, I'd say the mermaid baby ponies and the teeny tiny twins might tie for getting lots of attention. Maybe for Year 8, the sparkle baby ponies would get the most popular award.

If we cross off the playset ponies, then yes, I'd go with Parasol for Year 2. She's certainly pretty and has many fans but from years of selling I'd say she's a hard move, even in really nice condition. The other five Rainbow Ponies sell better (especially Parasol's "twin," Sunlight), and the "Main 12" of that year are all very popular.

I had to look at My Little Wiki to even remember what ponies came out Years 8-10! I wasn't collecting when they were in stores and these releases kind of run together for me.
