Paypal tracking number? (non-pony)

This isn't actually my issue, but a gift my hubby bought for me for Christmas. He opened a paypal claim last week, and the seller is insisting that the package is in Australia, that he can see it on his 'paypal tracking number', which consists only of numbers. I'm confused as heck, and can't find a place for hubby to track the darned number anywhere in order to verify his claims. Has anyone come across this before? How do I track it?

China, I think... I didn't really look because it was a gift, but from the communication the language sounds about right. They have a gazillion postal/tracking websites though, so I have no idea where to even start!

Ask the seller for the website of the post office he used to ship, and try putting the number in there. Ask him for an actual link, not just the name of it that you would have to google. Since each country has their own postal system (at least one!), and each system has their own tracking numbers, it gets a bit confusing.

That is where I would start.

Definitely DO NOT close the claim. It is up to them to prove the item arrived, via tracking. They should be putting that into their defense of the claim. It is possible that they are just making things up, shipping things from China can be kinda sketchy.    Many times they will ship via surface mail instead of airmail, so items take a very long time to arrive.

You already have some good advice in this thread (thanks everyone )  - hopefully you should be able to track it now but definitely check it out first - don't close the Paypal claim yet  . I hope everything works out ok , please let us know how it goes

Just letting everyone know how it went - turns out paypal couldn't track it either, and closed the dispute in our favour. Hubby took me out and we bought a new dress with the refund. Yay!
