You're welcome all. If you ever need a snowglobe, they're one of my favorite things to make.

Karma, where do you find the globe portions for your snow globes? I've been wondering that since I heard of people making snowglobes/waterglobes.

Secondly, an update. Searched for glycerin yesterday to no avail. Sending the wife to look later today while I am at work. Found distilled water easy enough but wasn't going to wait in line at WalMart for 35 minutes for a 1 dollar purchase lol.

Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Target, and WalMart.. none had liquid glycerin.  Only Hobby Lobby had any glycerin and it was solid. Hopefully wife can find some at The Vitamin Shoppe, a nature food store, or local independent pharmacy.

Updates to follow later. :)

So, Michaels used to have their line of empty snowglobes, but they stopped selling them.  >_< I bought them all out the year before though. After I'm done with them, I'll switch to this line: http://www.snowdomes.com/

I'm picking up this exact snowglobe today from a lady on freecycle! I'm so excited for the timing of this post!

I want to say that I used something other than glycerin in the one I made but don't recall what it was.  And plain ole glitter.  I've made "time out" bottles by melting clear glue and glitter glue in hot water.  Think that could work here?

This is wonderful! I have a childhood Christmas snow globe that is all but dry... i still put it out but it looks terrible. Now I have a way to bring it back to life! I'm so excited!

On the subject of snowglobes, is there anything special that needs to be done to the figurine inside to protect it? Just thought of a gift for my mother involving a porcelain Precious Moments figurine in a custom snowglobe.

Any thoughts or advice on that?

You can use baby oil, but it's not as neat, as it separates a bit more. I love the glitter glue stuff! It works great for time out bottles, sadly not as well for snow globes. I tried XD. You don't have to see anything but glitter in the time out bottles, but in snow globes it mostly makes a cloudy mess. I wish it worked!
So, if you want to put something in a snow globe, first make sure it'll fit when the stopper is in. then make sure there's no metal, nothing that can rust. then put a clear coat on it. or five. I usually do five. However, also pay careful attention to if there's a hole in the bottom or any way air can get caught. I once tried to make an igloo snow globe, but when I put the stopper in the water, air got trapped in the igloo and little by little forced the igloo off of the stopper. It's now a fun game of "can you land the igloo right side up?"
