Straight-haired vs long/curly-haired variations of G1 ponies
« on: October 02, 2014, 04:27:13 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew for sure if there are long/curly haired versions as well as straight-haired versions of both shy pose and CP Bow-Tie and Applejack.  In total this would make 8 variations!  Or did some of the poses only come with one type of hair?

I have curly-haired CP Bow-Tie and straight-haired shy pose Applejack from my childhood collection so I know those are good, but I'm not sure if my straight-haired CP Applejack and straight-haired shy pose Bow-Tie always had straight hair as I got those second-hand and I guess curls can be washed out over time and longer hair trimmed?  Some versions seem to be more common than others.

Also, I hardly ever see long/curly-haired Medley and Firefly for sale - are they really that rare?

Can anyone help to shed some light on this??? Thanks in advance :)

Long/curly haired Applejack, Bowtie, Medley and Firefly definitely do exist, and yes are less common than their straight haired releases.  Like most "second sets", they were likely ordered by far fewer stores since many retailers still had the previous year's stock.  Can't help you with the CP internationals though.

long haired on top, short on bottom.

They do come up for sale. Though I agree they're not as common. It's just that most don't notice the difference, and sometimes hair cuts happen...

I don't know why, but I always prefer the long haired girls.  More hair to play with.  :)

I once had a MOC UK collector pose Bow-Tie and she had curly hair.  I don't know if they're all like that, though.

I also found this picture on Taffeta's website of a collector pose Applejack with straight hair.

(Bow-Tie's hair is curled up along the back of her neck.)

This might also depend on country--UK versus Germany.  I also found a picture of Italian collector pose Applejack with curly hair.

Thanks for all the info and pics - that really does confirm it, there are both versions of each pose.  I'd forgotten about Cherries too!

I've got a few to find before I can complete the set ;)

Have we confirmed whether or not CP Applejack came in a curly-haired version?  I mean, a Hong Kong or China version, not Italian or other country, that is.    Same for straight-haired HK/China CP Bowtie?   I've seen straightened hair on a CP Bowtie, but it's usually longer than normal which makes me think it was originally curly.

There is no straight-hair Cherries Jubilee.  The curl just falls out of her hair over time.

I agree that we don't know if a curly haired Hong Kong AJ or a straight-haired Hong Kong Bow-Tie exists.  Hasbro sometimes made two ponies in the same mold and gave one curly hair and one straight hair--for example, Lickety-Split and Posey.

On the CP versions of Bow Tie & AJ do we mean? They were one of each only for the HK releases - straight hair AJ and curly BT.

I prefer the longer hair girls as well. Although I will admit the Firefly and Medley long hair versions can be hard to find. I dont think the long hair versions of AJ and BT are that bad.

Ah, so the curly-haired CP AJs that I've seen in photos are most likely Italians?

I've never seen a straight-haired Lickety-Split or a curly-haired Posey - these variations are getting confusing!

ETA:  Oops - just re-read your comment and realised what you meant - it's me that's confused, not the ponies LOL  ;)

There is no straight-hair Cherries Jubilee.  The curl just falls out of her hair over time.

That's funny, because I have one with short straight hair and one with long curly hair. Or well, the short-haired one has a curve to her hair, but def. not the kind of curl that the curly haired one has.

I agree there are straight haired non curly CJs - the second release of her over here has a shorter, straighter haired version.
