(non pony) Frozen figures and oil paintings
« on: August 26, 2014, 03:05:12 PM »
I haven't sculpted in a while, but I saw this concept art of Anna and Elsa. I thought it was cute and wanted to see if I could sculpt them.

They aren't quite finished yet - Anna's book is sculpted and has a base coat of paint, but I want to illustrate it (something like "The BIG Book of BIG Animals", with animals on the cover.) Elsa is more or less finished. Once Anna's book gets finalized, I may make a base so that they can sit together and look more polished/better presented.

I couldn't quite get them to look like the concept art - they're stylistically different, and Anna's too hunched over. But I can live with that! I did change Elsa's hair to look more like it did in the movie, though.

I am also working on these two oil paintings of my mom, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last May. For the one on the right, the reference is a photo of her when she was like, 18 or 19 (my mom was once younger than me...no way!). The one on the left was from a picture taken a few weeks ago, when she first shaved her head after her hair started falling out.

These paintings are small - they're 2 inches tall, 3 inches wide (or was it 3 and a half? I can't remember.) They're painted on little blocks of wood. Neither are done, cause I have a difficult time finishing things :P

Thank you for looking :)

Wow! The paintings of your mother are stunning.  She is so lovely.  Do you take commissions?

The sculptures are gorgeous too.  What is your sculpting medium?  They almost look like carved wood.  You are very talented.  I would love to see more of your work. :)

Thank you very much. I'm taking a step back from commissions for now. My sculptures are made from sculpey premo, but I like to carve into them to make the forms more precise :)

Your sculpting work never ceases to amaze me, the carved look and your eye for form, movement and stylisation gives the sculptures so much character and expression. I love Elsa's pose, she looks even more drawn into the book than in the reference picture; and Anna just looks so positively excited that it's impossible not to smile when seeing her. :D

Your portraits are stunning too, the tiny size makes them even more impressive! What a sweet gift for your mum, I am keeping my fingers crossed for her and hoping for the best.

Oh, Jocelyn!
Your Frozen sisters' expressions are just perfect! Each sister's expression matches their personality -- Elsa's is more reserved, and Anna's is so full of excitement. I love them! Can 't wait to see your finished work.

Just curious - did you ever finish your Rapunzel/Tangled sculpted pony? She was my favorite one you'd done, though all of them are great. :)

And your oil paintings of your mother are so beautiful.  Hope all goes well for her, for you and for your family!

Pony Hugs!
