Is it just me or is Ebay a little crazy?

Does it seem like ponies sell for outrageous prices on E-Bay? I saw an auction recently for TE Gingerbread.  She had pin dot mold and had an asking price of $50.

It's not eBay, it's the sellers there who think they can charge $50 for a pin dot moderately common pony. eBay doesn't dictate the prices, the sellers do unfortunately. I don't even bother with eBay anymore as I never see a good deal.

Oh I agree with you there.  I don't buy very many ponies on E-bay anymore just because I feel like the prices get crazy.  I much prefer to buy from people here on this site. I feel like people in this community have a much better understanding and deeper respect for what ponies should sell for.  For example, if a seller has a pin dot mold Cotton Candy (who I LOVE by the way.  She's pink with pink hair and her name is "Cotton Candy") with no tail and a hacked mane, they aren't going to ask for $30.  Likewise, if there is a MIB Mimic or Baby Minty, no buyer is going to say "Here.  Here you go.  Here's $20." Plus if I buy from people on this site, I figure the money will go back into their collection. : )

EBay used to charge for listings higher than 99p, but now they don't, sellers seem to have bumped prices up on everything, just because they can. Tis a bit annoying but oh well.

I haven't seen any reasonable priced ponies on eBay lately, so I don't even bother looking there any more. When selling something, people often think the item is more valuable just because they own it.

I have to agree that Ebay is getting a bit out of hand. But on the good side of it no one is making you buy that pony or ponies. I did hit one good deal today! I was able to get NIB G3 Birthflower pony for $14.00!!!  You have to look but there are still some good deals out there. I really wish it would back to what it was like when the G3 ponies first came out. Pony prices were not out of this world then.

Besides the craziness, I much prefer finding ponies in the wild. Exclusively. Thankfully this includes finding ponies through the arena, as long as I can handle them in person first! (like local meetups or national fairs if i ever make it to one!)

You get a better picture looking at sold listings only. Besides that, keep in mind that eBay ends up charging you roughly 25% of the total sale price, shipping included, for having a successful listing, so you need to bump up the price a fair bit to make any profit at all.

Very true.. few and far between a deal can be found..but it's nothing like it was just several years ago.  eBay used to be a fun place to hunt for ponies at great prices, now I hardly bother.  I understand the sellers need to charge more to make a profit nowadays, but still.  The extreme starting prices can be very off-putting.

As mentioned, people charge whatever they please for their ponies and people can pay whatever they desire. Outside of G4, no MLP has a shelf price or even a guide price to offer. It really is an open market for price. If a seller lists something far too high, having done no research or just because they want to, its their own fault if something does not sell or their good fortune if it does. No one is being forced to buy and something far too pricey will simply shelf warm on ebay until the seller gives up.

For every over priced pony, you will find an auction or BIN bargain.

There are some ludicrous prices out there - my personal experience is finally breaking down and handing over $40 for a MIB Zecorra, only to find someone on the arena selling the exact same thing for $15 less than a week later o_e

But at the same time, I won BB Pudding Pie (one of my big time g4 grails) for less than $10 the other day, and I've found many a bargain regarding blindbags and prototypes, so I guess it isn't all bad.

I've used/surfed Ebay since it was started.  It's always been that way - keep hunting and you'll find the amazing bargain!
