Dollyhair hank comparison 2007 - now

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if Dollyhair changed the sizes of their hanks between ~2007 and now? I sold 3 hanks of hair to someone and I had literally never opened the packages. The person I sold them to is saying she actually got half-hanks and I'm pretty certain that isn't right.

Before I issue her a refund, I'd like to know if there was a change in the hank size. It's not a lot of money I'd be out but I already ate some of the cost of shipping and I'd basically be zeroed out on that exchange otherwise.

I was under the impression that there were issues at one point with lighter hanks (smaller portions) but as of the end of last year or beginning of this year that had all been sorted out and there all about the same now.

Yes! There were issues with hank size during that time frame.

There were issues at one point in time;  I remember it being discussed here and comparison pictures and weights being posted.   I don't remember the time frame, though.

My guess is that the person you sold to may have only purchase hair during the time when hanks were "accidentally" fuller, or more recently.

The majority of time time that I was purchasing hair from DH (2010 throug end of 2012) hanks were pretty uniform, and pretty large. Then at some point they all got immediately and drastically smaller. The response from dollyhair was that they were always supposed to be smaller, we'd just been getting larger hanks for years by accident... or something. The owner then set a more standard size somewhere between the larger size we had been getting and the smaller size.

So anyway! Yes, way older hanks (pre 2010 anyway, I don't know an exact time frame but this is from my experience) were smaller than the 'accidentally' larger hanks sold more recently. I've purchased several unopened hanks from customizers old stashes that were smaller than others I have received more recently, but that's the norm.

In other words:

Time period A: small hanks (oldest)
Time Period B: large hanks (older, but within past 4 years)
Time period C: small hanks (a few months in 2012/2013)
Time period D: medium hanks (current)

If you do a search here you'll probably find the original thread on hank sizes, they were weighed and compared and yes, even counted strand by strand. Hope it works out good for you both x

 yes there were diffeences in hank sizes (and i'm sure there are still old threads floating around if you need to look into it further-)  but I dont do much customizing myself so I'm glad some other members could give you more info

I personally can never put the hair back in the bag as neatly as it is in the first instance so that's my way of knowing whether a hank is unopened or not
