What would you have said?

My  mother-in-law(who knows I'm a pony collector) asked me what my hubby got for my birthday. I told her
about the ponies and she laughed and said "you'll be 99 years old and still getting ponies!" I laughed too and didn't say much in response. But I thought her comment was strange.
 I love my mother-in-law. She's very sweet and doesn't make fun of my collecting. She even collects lots of things herself(dolls,music boxes,jewelry-to name a few) so I wondered why she said that. Am I reading into this too much? I keep thinking about what I should have said and how I'm sure her comment didn't mean to hurt my feelings. It just bothers me but I know it shouldn't.
What would you have said?

I would have said that I'll be getting ponies even longer than 99 years because ponies keep you young therefore more long-lived

In my opinion I don't see any malice in the comment I would have said "Most definitely!" xD And I like RobynGraves statement too!

You are going to know the context and tone as well as the personality of the person commenting better than the rest of us. But on the surface of it, I would say that seems a perfectly innocent comment with no hidden meanings. I would just have agreed if it had been me

Pretty much, this.  From what it sounds like, it sounds to me like she might have been enthusiastic for you and thinking that your love for ponies was going to be around for a very, very long time.  It's hard to judge that from not being there, though.  I'd think that if she was being unsupportive she would have said something more along the lines of "Ugh, ponies AGAIN?!" or "Aren't you getting a little too old for that" instead of applauding the thought of you continuing to collect in the future

I will definitely still be getting ponies for my BD when I'm 99, and even 105.  Finding ponies without significant vinyl deterioration may be a bit of a challenge at that point, but I'm up for it!

  Taking into account what you said that she collects and that she is sweet ,I would think that she wishes you a long life of collecting nothing else
if her wish does come to pass ,we will be expecting a brag from you for your 99th Birthday
hope I'm around for it and that I'm still collecting as well

Thanks for helping me to look at her comment differently everyone:) I never thought of like you all did. I know there was no malice intended.
I hope my love of mlp does last until I'm 99, maybe they'll keep me feeling young like Robyngraves said!
