So I have this Moonston and I'm not 100% if she's nirvana. Mane is cut as you can see. Cutie mark is painted and not glittery - silver parts looks metallic

I found this for you on mylittlewiki.org :

German Moonstone is similar in appearance to "regular" US Moonstone, except her symbol is non-glittery. "German" refers to Moonstone's country of origin, not the country where the pony was manufactured; German Moonstone was made in Hong Kong.

I think she is the german version, too. I would have thought between 15-25 USD, depending on her condition.

She is German

It's very exciting to see her metallic symbols as most have mat painted symbols.

Why is this pony so prone to age marks!? Germany Moonstone is slowly driving me absolutely crazy...and I mean for the last 5 years.

I have purchased a half dozen of them and every single one has had or developed age marks. There is something about this particular set! Nightlight and Starshine are as bad. One day I will finally add her [either version] to my collection

Congrats on finding such a great pony! The metallic symbols put her price up but the age marks and her hair trim bring her back down. I would think the $12-15 mark would still be about right in that condition. She is not as sought after as the other members of that set unfortunately.

Hathrocat - it would seem that all the German rainbows got two releases, but I've never been able to track down the two versions of Moonstone. I had a feeling it was metallic paint vs non metallic paint, like Starshine (she has mat vs metallic)

Yes I agree

Out of the 6 I have [still have 2, sold on another 4] they were all the non metallic version but that is simply because I think she is much, much more common. Probably how we see fewer reverse Skydancers than the regular release, if that makes sense.

I know there is a smaller symbol v larger symbol theory on Moonstone but of all the ones I have had, while there is certainly some size difference, I dont think its ever enough of a difference for it to be quantifiable in the way it is with Nightlight and Raindrop. Just some minor differences as we see with a lot of pony symbols.

However, I have seen [like this one here] what appears to be a proper metallic version, like as you say with Starshine, so do believe that Moonstones variant is "regular paint" v "metallic paint"

Until...as with Nirvana something happens to throw that theory out the window

It seems only nightlight and raindrop have the biggest and easiest to spot differences between the symbols.

I didn't think the difference between Moonstones was down to size and I'd ruled out reverse symbols, so all that was left was metallic.

The yellow paint version of Starshine is less common compared to the metallic version and as you said, the reverse version of Skydancer is not easy to find. I'm not sure about which of the Flutterbyes is easier/harder to find.

I'm sooooo glad to finally see a moonstone with metallic paint

I was going to say I think the rounded butterflies is a harder to find version of Flutterbye but I am not sure if its less about find-ability [sorry cant think of the right word ] and more about the fact the square edged one is so distinctive and easy to spot?

It took me a long time to find the rounded edge one though - 5 years of searching and she only finally joined by collection last week thanks to shelti

I think you are right Cat now you come to mention it you do see the square version more. It is easier to spot as they seem to stand out more
