Costume contest questions

I've never been to the Fair before, and 2014 information's not really on the site yet- how is the costume contest? Is it more serious or is it casual? And are there prizes?

I DEFINITELY want to cosplay at the Fair, no question there... but how "all out" I go depends on if there's a lot of incentive to do something "wow" worthy, if you know what I mean.

In the past the prizes have been fancy rosette award ribbons, coupled with raffle tickets (not 100% sure they did raffle tickets last year, but they have in 2010 & 2011 for sure). The way people cosplay runs from casual to very elaborate, so it's really up to each person how extensive they want to make their costume.

The voting is done by viewers choice on a secret ballot, so it really depends on what the majority of people like as to who wins. It's not necessarily the most elaborate or fancy. One of the big winners last year was a lady who came with her grand-daughters. They asked her to dress as Granny Smith. While her costume was simple, it was a huge crowd pleaser because of the sweet story of a Grandma joining in the pony fun.

Wellp, I gave in and bought the fabric for my ideal MLP cosplay >:3 Excited to get started, I hope it blows people away. I WANT it to be a couples costume with my husband, but we'll see how much time I can dedicate to the project.

I have a question for this.  I have an RD full body mascot suits, and my two friends have Twilight and Pinkie Pie mascot suits.  If I am not mistaken, this is a Hasbro official event, so would we have to fire off an email to the event coordinators and ask for permission to wear these kind of costumes?  Reason why I ask is because we don't want to be mistaken as officially part of the convention.

I'm not sure if its been done like that for previous years.

interesting, you are good iris! and i didn´t knew that fursuits are considered cosplay too!  ( thought that fursuiters don´t like cosplayers, especially on thier conventions.)
gahh, how much i wish to visit you guys on this pony fair. >o<

We've had some fullsuit wearers at previous fairs and I don't think it's been an issue

Just remember, this is July so it'll be pretty hot, you'll want to make sure you drink plenty of water if you're wearing something very thick or heavy!

As far as costumes go, I keep in mind that there are always kids there so I wouldn't want anything hanging out or something too too short. Decent but fun, no Hot for your Hubby Sexy costumes would get my vote
