Price Check: Mimic
« on: August 17, 2013, 03:01:42 PM »
I'd like a price check for a Mimic with flaws, please.  It's the one pictured here:

http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/mycollection5.html#TEPonies2

I thought with her flaws she'd be around $80, but a recent thread I read here made me question if I'm selling myself short.  I've been looking to trade her for a TAF Baby Love Melody.

Thanks for any input!

Unfortunately with those marks you wouldn't get more than $50-55 for her :( I bought one with pindot and in better condition for $50.

That's perfectly fine.  I got my upgrade for 25 cents at a church rummage sale.  I can't exactly complain about the profit margins!   ;)

She seems to be trending $100 in nice condition right now and although sometimes she is going higher she is also going lower on occasion.

She has problems but she is still Mimic, I would also price her in that $55 range.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

A Mimic with a super goofy haircut sold not too long ago for over $60, so I'm sure someone will come along and love to take yours home. :) Even if her problems are not fixable, there are a lot of people who want this pony and it would be a good trade for someone who is looking for her but can't afford her in minty minty mint condition.

They must have been insane! I always check the price of old things on the internet before I give them to charitable causes now ;w;!

Lol.  I've found 3 Mimic's at this type of thing.  I've never paid more than $2 for any of them.  I don't think Mimic is actually all that rare.

Maybe not, but she still fetches a pretty penny ;w;!

She isn't rare- she's popular. Everybody wants her, so they are willing to pay big bucks for her. Really though, she's not really uncommon in terms of amount in existence.

Why is Mimic so popular? I think she's sort of ugly. Not keen on her colours at all.

I think it's lots of things really. First off she is green, there are not many ponies in that pose, her hair colours are wild and she's a unicorn. Unicorns are always super popular with collectors :) and she has a nice symbol. She's not the stereotypical pink pretty mlp.

I believe when she was released in North America in the 80s she was not very popular because of her colours ( some people call it puke green lol XD ) but adult collectors now seem to love her.

Trust me she will grow on you. I used to hate her and it took 3 years of brainwashing but I love her now :P

I think its the "collectability" factor a lot of the time as well. Almost like being sought after because she is sought after...if that makes any sense.
