Your Biggest Bargain Brag!
« on: July 17, 2013, 07:27:38 AM »
I thought it'd be fun to have a collaborative thread where you can post your ultimate bargain! Here are the three easy steps:

1. Where did you find your bargain pony/ponies/merchandise - a thrift store? eBay? in a bin?!

2. What was the bargain price? This obviously varies, i.e. getting a rare pony for $10 may still be a massive barg!

3. Post a picture of your beloved pony.

Me first!

1. I found a pony at a car boot sale a couple of weeks ago. I rarely find anything, and wasn't massively hopeful. I walked past a bag of soft toys, when my mum pointed out a sparkly tuft of hair which was poking out. 'Could that be a pony'? she says, getting all excited. I dig my hand in and pull out...G1 Twinkler! In mint condition, no rubs and great hair.

2. She cost me a mere 30p. Not bad going!

3. And here she is:

P.S, the pillowcase she's stood on was another car boot find. WITH the duvet cover, like new as if it had just come out of the packet in the 80s, £1.

Looking forward to seeing all of your treasures!

Someone on kijii listed a lot of 10 MLP for $10, and when we got them there were 6 G1s which we had zero interest in and I looked up there prices (completed ebay listings and they were worth collectively $45-$60), so we sold them, I don't think we have pictures as that was a little while ago. I just know that we made a big profit on our little $10, plus we got 4 g3 that I used as bait ponies, which is what the lot was bought for to begin with lol

Congrats, that is a really good price for her!

Woo tough one. I've found quite a few, but to be honest, what I call a bargain, others may not.

1. Where did you find your bargain pony/ponies/merchandise - a thrift store? eBay? in a bin?!
Boot sale. Mummy Meadwosweet, no cut hair, no cancer, just faded lightly hair and a missing patch of paint on one DS symbol.

Also NC/Spanish Mummy Apple Delight.

Oh and my other amazing one was a completely mint Snowflake with ribbon and brush from eBay. Got her for £3.41.

2. What was the bargain price? This obviously varies, i.e. getting a rare pony for $10 may still be a massive barg!
50p & 50p. From the same seller. Also got lots more from them, but nothing particularly rare.

3. Post a picture of your beloved pony.

Don't have one at present, but she is lovely.

Hmm.. I think my best find would be Creamsicle, Oakley, Cutasarus and Cha-Cha the llama, along with 9 other ponies.. for like, $3.

It's a good story too. We went to the Salvation Army on a Friday.. I was looking around, and I always kind of peek in the back room. (It's open and you can see in..) I saw familiar hooves!! I nicely asked an employee if I could buy that bag (while trying not to panic..) she said no. Oh man. I was so upset!  We went back Saturday.. they were closed Sunday.. then went back Monday. There they were! It was even better than I had hoped! Persistence pays off.

Well this was just the other day, and it wasn't to do with ponies.  A very special antique kimono got listed on ebay, it's a trailing kimono meant for a Geisha and was owned by a Geisha, but the seller had it listed as just a kimono.  Anyways, it was even obvious from the thumbnail what it was, but still, no one bid on it but me.  $155 is a lot of money for an opening bid, but these kimono go for $400 and up generally, especially antique and good condition like this one, and the values have only been climbing through the roof lately.  It's not unusual to see one go for a grand or two these days.

Thanks for sharing everyone! Totally loving all of these stories so far :) Mikeysgrrrl, it's always great to get a big lot for a bargain price and make your money back by selling on the ones you don't want. Mlphammy, an Indian for $3 is pretty AMAZING, congrats! Icecrystalline, particularly impressed by the Snowflake WITH her brush for such a low price. Ianthe99, your bag of ponies (and pony FRIENDS, notably!) would literally be my dream find. Major congrats, and yes, persistence does pay off :) MiRaja, I also happen to own a couple of kimono, so very much appreciate how chuffed you must have been with that purchase! Kiwimlp, WHAT an amazing find, I bet you were smiling for the rest of the day!

I've never heard of another lot like this for the same price. It was one of my very first posts in the "new" (lol, old? it was new to me then... but they've since moved and now it's "new" again?) TP. I never thought I'd get to post my mega brag again. ;)

My biggest bargain was finding High Flier in the Salvation Army for 25 cents. She's in great shape, too. :D

Not well received? I'm sorry to hear that  :(   They were all probably dripping green with envy. I hope that didn't spoil your enjoyment of that win, because that lot's worth walking on cloud nine for years on end! That's dreams come true sort of stuff!

One time I won a Macau Jenny on eBay for $8. She is practically flawless.

Ianthe99, that is one amazing deal!!!  :)
