Wisconsin Pony Meet Thread! June 1st!!
« on: March 17, 2013, 09:53:37 PM »
I figured this should get its own thread :silly:

I'd like to host a pony meet while I have the chance (this might be my last year to do so) :) I was thinking sometime in May, but early-mid June would be ok too. I know this may be a bit of short notice, so I definitely wouldn't be offended if someone else hosted another WI meet later this year ;)

I'm located in Oregon, WI (15-20 minutes south of Madison, http://www.bestplaces.net/images/city/oregon_wi.gif ) and I wouldn't have a problem picking people up if they're relatively nearby.

I would be hosting this at my grandma's house, and there should be plenty of space/chairs. There are no animals there, but there had been a dog staying there for quite some time (just a head's up in case you're super sensitive allergy-wise like me).

ETA: Aaand the date of the meet will be June 1st! :awake:

Where?:
*County Road B, Oregon, WI (PM me for the exact address and what to look for)

When?:
*Saturday June 1st!
*The start time is 10am, roughly ;) It's perfectly fine to get there a little bit later if you need to.
*If you have a long drive back, you are welcome to stay the night if you need to :)

What to bring?:
*Ponies! There should be plenty of space for you to bring ponies to sell or trade :)
*Something to eat! (optional) Lunch/dinner will be pot luck style.
*A WRAPPED gift (optional)- for the gift exchange. You only need to bring one if you want to participate, but it must be wrapped ;) More detailed rules further down (reply #12). As for what it can be, anything ~$10 or less in value should be fine. It can be pony or non-pony.

Madison is totally do-able for me! It might actually be closer to me than the MN pony meet this year! I'll look at the calendar and come back to clicky on some dates. My mother-in-law takes us on a NorthShore vacation every year, and it's sometime in May.
Thanks for jumping on this, Glacia!

I hope you can make it :)

I've only been to one meet myself, so I'd welcome ideas/suggestions with this too :good: I know name-tags are immensely helpful, so I'll try to get those for the meet.

Does anyone have any ideas for games/activities? I can bring my perler supplies. My grandma's backyard is huge too (we used to set up a volleyball net and play at family gatherings, though I'm not sure where the net went or how to set it up) if that helps gives anyone think of something. :awake:

I love badminton- I wonder if a fakie or McPony would work for badminton? I've never tried it, but I'll bet some of the McPonies would work!

I have a couple fun game ideas from past MN meets, I'll be happy to bring them to the WI meet. Seaponey, no cheating. (I'll switch them up a little, don't worry!)

Ooh, I like it! Are we thinking about $10 value, a pony and extras? Or just whatever you want to include? Whatever it is, I'm totally in!

So, for the gift exchange (tiny swap?), if we're going to include ponies then there is an interesting way we could play this ;) We did this at a couple of my family gatherings and it was really fun.

How it works is that everyone who brings something (must be wrapped!) draw numbers to determine turn order, then sit in a circle with all the presents in the middle. The person who got #1 goes first and picks any present they want out of the pile and open it. Person #2 can pick a present out of the pile too, OR they can steal person #1's present. If they steal, person #1 has to pick a new present from the pile. Once both of them have a present, person #3 gets their turn and can pick one from the pile, or either of #1 or #2's presents. Here's where it can start to get crazy. If they steal from #1 for example, #1 can then take #2's present and #2 will then have to take something from the pile.

Basically, people can either pick something from the pile, or steal from someone else who has a present already. You can't steal from a person who stole from you in the same turn, and once you have had the same gift 3 times, it's yours and no one can steal it from you. Once all the presents in the middle have been claimed, the game is over~

I do hope that makes sense :) Thoughts?

Most of those dates work for me, I would love to be able to attend, and I won't cheat at the games either :P

I love the gift exchange/tinyswap idea, that sounds like a lot of fun!  I'd be in!

That sounds like a great plan, Glacia. My wish list is a little finicky, so it will be nice to have a couple choices! Good times! (Hi, Seaponey!)
