Apple Barrel vs Folk Art Paint
« on: March 06, 2013, 06:41:28 PM »
Is there a huge difference between these two kinds of paint besides colour selection and price?

Apple Barrel is about 60 cents cheaper so if I can save that amount per bottle when the pain is just as good, I'd rather do that. But I'm not going to sacrifice the quality if it's horrible for painting ponies with.

they're booth good paints but light colored Apple barrel paints ( like yellow and white) are really really thin you might have to do several more coats of paint.

Folk Art take fewer layers to cover but the colors seem to be a little darker. I use some of booth paints. Though I would recommend you stay away from Apple barrel's white if you do FBR in white it cracks over large areas and has to be repainted.

I much prefer Folk Art over Apple Barrel, for all the reasons that Summer-blade gave.

Good advice, I'm using Anita's all Purpose Acrylics and I like it so far. Any suggestions on this brand?

It goes on sale a lot from regular retail $.77 ( 77 Cents ) to 30% off at Hobby Lobby a few times during the year.

i use both apple barrel and folkart (and anitas, and delta ceramcoat and createx)
i generally prefer folkart, delta for the reasons mentioned above...better coverage.... and createx (createx is airbrush paint, and much thinner than the rest....which is better for fine lines)

I only use the craft paints when I need to... other wise I still prefer createx for FBRs and some other things
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

Thanks guys. I'm going to go ahead and get Folk Art then. I'm not using tons or white or yellow (only for eyes and one horn for two customs) but I'd rather use something that I know covers better and is going to frustrate me less.

Hopefully sometime my dad and I can split the money for an airbrush to make things easier in terms of painting.
