Good catch Aperture! I forgot about the G3 Sunshimmer. So It looks like yellow sun themed pony went through every generation except that in G2 her hair changed to blue briefly nd then changed back to red in G3.

Well, Princess Golden Light and Golden Light unicorn both had yellow hair. Which yellow G1 pony had that combo?

I want her! So pretty. Funny enough yellow is my least favorite color but when I started looking at some of my favorite ponies, a good bit of them are in fact yellow!~

Oh finally something I want bad! I find it odd that Hasbro didn't just reuse the name Sun Shimmer, but has to be SunSET Shimmer instead. Apart from the darker orange, she looks almost reminiscent of the G3 pony. Love that she's a unicorn

I think "Sunset Shimmer" is a play off "Twilight Sparkle".  Sunset is the same time as twilight (generally speaking) and "shimmer" and "sparkle" are synonyms.

The eyes do make her seem a little younger IMO. But they're so pretty! Oh man I think I'm going to need at least 50 of this beautiful pony! ;_;

Since we're all guessing as to what her character will be...what if she is some past incarnation of Twilight Sparkle? That could potentially explain the similar names. Though I feel like her and Twilight becoming the next Luna/Celestia is weirdly likely to be possible (but I also feel like the show would be kinda jumping the shark at that point? Maybe a little?)

Well, as far as we know, that's supposed to be a spinoff, and FiM is supposed to continue as planned, right? So TECHNICALLY FiM doesn't have a shark in the pool yet. That's what I'm going to keep telling myself.

Sometimes I think bronies are weird. Yes, Sunset Shimmer is a similar name to Twilight Sparkle, but that's because sparkle and shimmer and twinkle and glimmer are words that are often used in pony names. The same goes for Sunny, Sunset, Starlight, Twilight, Moonbeam and all those other celestial names. They're bound to randomly connect two that are similar to another pony. I don't think they're going to get rid of a main character. The main character of a show never dies.
