Do you consider Glimmer Wings a new breed?
« on: February 17, 2013, 01:41:34 PM »
And when I say new breed, I mean... Well new breed. xD Obviously G1 had the most diverse variety with toons of different breeds but after G1 we only saw Unicorn, Pegasus and Earth. Well those awful G3.5s had their run of Merponies. But for G4, we have the three main breeds, also Alicorns and they also released the Glimmer Wing ponies! I consider them a new breed, well for the ponies that they made specifically to be glimmer wings. For example Sweet Song, Diamond Rose I think her name is, Ploomette, etc.

What's your take on that?

I kind think of them as more summer/windy wing ponies, just in a G4 style. But I might be biased since I can't seem to suspend my disbelief enough to let ponies have butterfly wings, and I kind of lump them all together. (I know, mer-ponies and pegasi are okay, but flutters and other bug-winged ponies? Outrageous! :P )
Or, going by the show, maybe they are ponies who have had the same spell cast on them as Twilight cast on Rarity in the episode "Sonic Rainboom," where she had temporary butterfly wings.
I'll put something here some time

I personally don't, or maybe that's just because I don't like them  :P

Nope - they didn't even bother to make new poses - just added ridiculously oversized wings!

I definitely do :) I don't collect multiples of them, so since I already have a regular pegasus Diamond Rose I won't be getting her Glimmer Wing counterpart, so I see them as being a different breed as you say. At the moment I only have two, Ploomette and SweetSong, and even if I never get anymore that's fine with me. I see these girls as sort of the Flutter Ponies of the G4 line so that's how I imagine my two, as having lived in a community of Glimmer Wings ponies but they decided they wanted to explore the rest of the world so they wan off in search of finding new ponies! That's how they made it into my herd anyway xD

No, they are just a different design.  I mean in all generations you had some form of different wing, Summer, G2 clip on, G3 cloth wings on Star Catcher and flapping wings.  So no not a new breed just a new pony to get you to buy another.  Oh and they are different bodies, they are not the same as the regular G4 bodies, there are differences, just like the G1 wingers had different bodies.

I consider them their own species. I only collect the Glimmer Wings that are new characters that don't have a regular ver. out at the time they are released so I only have Ploomette and Sweetsong, but yeah in my mind there are Earth ponies, Unicorns, Pegasi, Alicorns/Princesses, Crystal Ponies and Glimmer Wings ponies in the pony world so far.  ^.^ (I feel like I'm forgetting one...?)

I still consider them unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies. I might have thought otherwise if Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Rarity were not made into Glimmer Wings. They are just the same old ponies with wings slapped on.

Lets take the Shine Brights for example. I wouldn't consider them a new breed of pony just because they light up/have translucent wings/have translucent horns.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention the text on the glimmer wings boxes. Rarity and Rainbow Dash's box describes the ponies pretending to have nice wings like a butterfly or dragonfly. I think the theme is more ponies pretending to have pretty wings like their animal buddies.

I consider them to be a different breed. Although in my head they live in a parallel universe so it's ok that the same pony may have wings. I didn't like the glimmer wings at first, but I must say that they are starting to grow on me. Which makes me wish I had gotten them when they were in stores. I have Ploomette and Sweet Song. Hopefully I can find others somewhere down the line.

They are a new breed to me. I would love to have the Pegasus versions of some of them, but they have their own part of the shelf in my collection. I can't overlook those wings or excuse them as a spell. XD Actually...as a kid, I loved the fact that there were butterfly winged ponies (like some sort of forest faerie-horse hybrid.)

Me too! + I don´t like them. Those wings don´t fit the bodies. They´re too big!

Nope I just consider them the same old ponies with a gimmick added - no different than the Shine Brights or Crystal Motion. After all when G1 did different "types" of ponies they were not only different characters but the style of the ponies changed - flutters and wingers etc.

I do, in my head they all live in Glimmer Valley outside of Ponyland (Also in my head Equestria is just a small part of Ponyland :P) but a few left Glimmer Valley and decided to stay in Equestria. Therefore, while the Glimmer Wings ponies may look like some regular ponies, their personalities and such are entirely different.
