Airbrush, this unknown thing LOL
« on: December 14, 2012, 08:40:21 AM »
I am super happy as my uncle which strongly supports me in everything like a father, gifted me an airbrush for Christmas  :frolic:
Just...holy cow, how I am supposed to use it? LOL I mean, I never used one in my life and so never used it on ponies, are there some tutorials, do I have to water down the colors? I suppose yes, and how much?
Sorry if are silly questions but I really never used one and when I saw the thing I just thought "oh oh, I need help"  :drunk:

Yay congrats on getting an airbrush! They are awesome pieces of kit I wouldn't be able to cope without mine. You do need to water down the paint to a milk like consistency thick paint will clog your airbrush so it's always better to have it a little thinner and do a few coats of paint!
There best thing to do is perhaps test it out first on some paper rather than dive straight in with a pony get used to the airbrush first. Umm I can only really offer basic advice but it may be helpful! The closer the airbrush is to the pony the finer the line of paint will be, something worth practicing first as you have to regulate the paint flow carefully or it just goes blobby and horrid! For FBR's use broad steady strokes and try not to linger in one area too long or you'll get paint runs down the pony.

Don't worry too much, usually there is an instruction book that comes along with the airbrush. There are also a few tutorials on youtube.
It's really simple to use an airbrush so you dont need too much training.
Depending on which paint you use, you might need to water it down. If you use normal acrylic paints you will need to water them down, some specific airbrush paints might need it too but if you use stuff like Createx pearl paints, you might not need to water them at all. At least thats what Darkhorse told me.
I myself just bought a gravity feed airbrush since it seems they reduce the left over paint.

 >_<  there's only a small pamphlet which explain the component parts of the airbrush
I will just search on youtube as suggested.
I would like to buy specific paint to avoid troubles, don't want to destroy it  :P

Congratulations! :)

I own an airbrush, but I've only used it a handful of times. You can buy special airbrush paints or dilute some acrylic to run through. I use Windex to dilute my paint. It needs to be extra runny so it doesn't clog the tool up.

Proper care is very important! After using your brush, run a whole lot of airbrush cleaner, rubbing alcohol, or Windex through it to prevent dried paint and rust buildup inside. Do not use water; this will cause rust.

I can't wait to seer what you create with your uncle's thoughtful gift!
