another pony display solution
« on: November 26, 2012, 10:09:08 AM »
Since I live in an apartment and can't nail anything to the wall and don't want to use command-type strips and hooks thanks to the overwhelming number of reviews where people said it took paint off their walls, I have to find creative ways to do things such as using super strong magnets to hold posters to the walls because the wall studs have screws and nails in them which magnets will stick to. Recently I wanted to get two tension poles to put up in my living room so I can string christmas lights between them, also two in my pony room so I can string stuffed animals across the room. My mom used to have a tension pole when I was little that held hanging plants. They don't sell these much anymore except on ebay. So I found a 8 foot tension pole shower caddy for $14 at walmart and just bought one yesterday to try it out. It just uses a pole with a spring that you wedge between the floor and ceiling and it holds itself up. It comes with 4 movable little shelves. So I modeled some ponies on a shelf and some ornaments on another for a picture. Each shelf holds 3 adult G1s and probably 6 or 7 G4's. The shelves have a plastic grated bottom so water doesn't sit on them as the thing is made for the corner of a shower, but you can put a piece of cardboard over the grates if you want to display smaller ponies.

Its hard to see in this pic because its just a small little pole in a corner

That's a really great idea. Especially in a corner if you want two or three ponies on a display.

I bet a G1 family would look super cute on one.

P.S - I like the baubles on the top - so excited for christmas! :frolic:

That's actually a pretty neat use of it! We actually bought one of those for our shower, and it fell off and couldn't hold anything. Ponies look like an awesome light object to use for them.

neat! I have had the command strips peel paint in my apartment already, I'll have to try magnets.

If you use magnets to hang things I suggest neodymium magnets over ceramic. Neodymium is much stronger and can hold framless 8x10 pictures with one magnet and larger posters/paper prints with 2 or more magnets. Ceramic magnets can hold maybe a 5x7 picture without a frame. The poster of the carousel horse you can see in the picture I posted is held up with 2 neodymium disk magnets. They are hard to find in stores. I had to shop a few hardware stores to find them.
