Hot Topic finds: Not sure how to feel

So a friend of mine and I went out and about today.  Like always, we stopped into Hot Topic in the mall to check out the t-shirts and pony stuff.  Usually the pony kiosk there is full of nothing but t-shirts and hoodies, but today we found:
Rainbow Dash vinyl figures
Overpriced surprise bags
Doctor Whooves belt
3- pack of ankle socks socks (that, I kid you not, were officially licensed and had the word "brony" on them)
Rainbow Dash lounge trousers
3-pack of women's cotton briefs (officially licensed)
"Brony" wallet
"Brony" wristband
Rainbow Dash toe socks (again, officially licensed)

And, of course, a metric crap-tonne of WeLoveFine tees.

I don't mind that Hasbro is cashing in on its adult fanbase, but why does everything have to scream "brony"?  I almost bought the pack of ankle socks until I saw that a pair said "brony".  I made it out of there with just the vinyl figure.

At my local HT, they had a 5 pack of anklet socks, and only one pair said Bronies on it. I was quite pleased. :3

I really wish there were more variety with the wrist bands, however. I'd dig a Ditzy Doo one.

I got the socks and a Rainbow Dash figure today. I don't refer to myself as a brony, but it was one pair out of 5, so I don't really care. Also, my Hot Topic was having a 25% off everything sale, and the free papercraft for a pony purchase of $25 or more.

The had one Pony figure left, but the box was smashed, so I didn't get it. I'll have to check back again.

ehh. It's a case of marketers thinking the straight white male's dollar is worth just a bit more than everyone else's. Regardless of how many of those terms actually apply to someone in the fanbase. But it's a very sought after demographic.

I agree that it does bother me. I don't consider myself a part of the "brony" fandom not only because I don't associate myself with all the negative aspects of their community, but also because I'm a huge fan of all gens and grew up on the 80's ponies. But it gets annoying as the other adults in my family who support my pony habit don't really get it, and seeing all these crazy things with brony on it have them assuming I call myself a brony, which...just...ugh. No. I don't. But if I try to argue then I look even more like a dork so I just have to shut up and deal with it. I do like this Rainbow Dash lounge pants though.

It's kind of cool that they're acknowledging the fan-base directly by putting "brony" on things, but yeah, not all fans are bronies either, so it's a little frustrating. But that's where the money is...

I think Elisto is right. Personally...its nice to get some adult merch but I wouldn't complain if there could be a little more geared towards women, lighter, more [sorry for using the world but yes] feminine colours [I think I am just bored with everything seeming to be on dark backgrounds but that's a personal thing nothing else] and even less of the generic branding of everything under the same banner.

Unfortunately marketeers have clearly found a market that is making them money and thats the path merchandise in general in G4 seems to be heading down.

I agree that Hasbro is doing it to make money, as any profit driven company would. I think the word brony is going to be around a while, and so will brony merchandise as it does seem to be all the hype at the moment.

I actually met a pony fan at HT today! I saw the pony display on my way by and literally ran toward it squealing, "PONIES!!!" There was a girl there also looking at the display and debating what to buy. Of course, we got to talking. She was excited about season 3 starting soon. I was just excited to see pony merchandise! (And getting a chance to talk to someone else who 'gets it.') The closest Hot Topic is a three hour drive for me, so I didn't even know about it! It was an awesome surprise for me!   

BTW, I didn't see any undies or lounge pants. Lounge pants would have been very cool and I totally would have bought them, but I'm with you girls... the undies just seem.... wrong!

They don't have it on their site, but one pair had Fluttershy (I think she was saying "Yay"; I don't remember), one had Ditzy Doo saying "Muffins", and one just had Rainbow's symbol on it.

The lounge pants are awesome~  They're black and have Rainbow Dash on them.  I may have put them on my Christmas list. ^^'

 LOL  I guess I did not know there is negative stuff linked to bronies , I call myself one  but I'm neither white or young ,I do not collect plushies or blind bags or merch with Brony on it .
I love the MLP FIM show and the  toys ,but I do like the other Generations and their shows as well
