Looking for a good quality cheap mp3 player. Any suggestions?
« on: October 02, 2012, 08:13:03 PM »
So the apple brand ones are pretty much out of my price range.... Im looking for one that i can hook up to the cd player in my car to play songs. Does anybody know of one that that has the function of randomly playing songs instead of going in order? and of course one that has good battery life. Ive never owned an mp3 player before and dont even know where to begin to look...

Try going to creative.com. I had one of their MP3 players before I got my iPod and really really liked them. They're super affordable and good quality!

Have you tried looking in to used/refurbished iPods?  I know that Game Stop buys used ones, but I've never looked at buying one, so I have no idea what the prices would be like.  I've only dealt with Apple mp3 players, personally, so I can't really give you advice on others, but I can tell you that the Nanos that they were making uh... three years ago at least are pretty neat in that they'll play on a tiny built-in speaker, even if you have the headphones out.  I ride my horses with mine all the time like that - keeps me from needing to blast a radio for the neighbors to hear ;)

As far as playing it through your CD player, you might have to look into accessories to attach the mp3 player to your radio.  I had one a loooooong time ago (it's not compatible with the newer models, but I'm sure they still make similar devices) that plugged into the cigarette lighter and you tuned in to a certain radio station and it played through there.  You could use the exact same controls as you would if you were listening with head phones, so you could shuffle songs, listen to specific albums, or whatever.

Sorry I'm not much more help :/

The Creative Zen Stone I bought my hubby was pretty good.

Also, check out pawn shops. I've bought a few nice cheap iPods at pawn shops.

I have a Philips GoGear 2GB mp3 player (the ID number is: SA3125/02), it has a USB cable so you can attach it to the car CD player, I'm not sure if it has a random function though, but it has a long battery life and is generally really good. I'm not sure if they sell them any more, though, since my fiance bought it about 3(?) years ago, but the newer ones from Philips are probably good too. I hope you find something you like :-)

edit: I just looked, it also has a shuffle function.

Not my polaroid 8g video and mp3 player. It has almost unlimited storage space because it takes a mini sd card but the battery lasts only about 3 hours and the songs only play in order.Make sure you look for one with good internal speaker volume. I mean plugging it into my car isn't a problem but when I'm at work not using ear buds or an external speaker the highest volume is not great.

I have a SanDisk Sansa that I love.  It randomizes and would play through the car speakers if my car was new enough to have a line-in jack in the stereo, lol!

Ive been looking at cobys but they dont have alot of good reviews. I checked out the creative brand but went to ebay and they look nice. The only thing there is the people have bought them in bulk from the company so they dont have the original box. Shouldnt hurt anything though... Im really liking the zen mosaic 8gb one but i need to sell a few more items before i can afford it.

Here's another plug for Sandisk Sansa. They've been pretty good for me for the past handful of years. I use a little plug-in FM transmitter to play it on my car stereo.

I second creative. I had a few of their players and their pretty good value for money, (although my last one randomly stopped working)

I would say look for cheap Zippy ones on ebay. I've also got my old one that I am trying to get rid of ! Zippy one, lots of scratches and use, still has the box and instructions and USB cable. Not sure if it will go in your car, but probably will.

I can find out more if you want?

I had a Creative Zen almost all throughout high school and my first year of college.  It was WONDERFUL and I was kinda sad when it finally died.

This is it: http://www.cnet.com.au/creative-zen-digital-media-player-339281638.htm

I think it cost me somewhere between $30-$40.

I'm getting this one today!  My first MP3 player was a Sansa and I loved it!
