G3 screenshots, lore, and random stuff

I was watching the Princess Promenade and the Runaway Rainbow back to back and noticed a couple things.

G4 was not the first generation to show ponies as celestial bodies

Spike says he's descended from a long line of royal dragons, was asleep for 1,000 years underneath the castle moat, and when Wysteria wanted to stop being a princess he almost fell asleep again and said he'd miss her before nodding off--implying he'd sleep so long she wouldn't live long enough for him to wake up.

He also had dreams of being a king in the Runaway Rainbow, though he said he didn't mind being called a prince in the Princess Promenade and was crowned as such.

Also, his Princess book already had a picture of Wysteria in it!

Spike also knows what a unicorn is, and his map had something REALLY interesting--a picture of different castle/kingdoms that each celebrated different things.

One for happiness, one for laughter, one for families (this one wasn't pictured), one for friendship, one for kindness, one for music, and one for rainbows. Rarity said the Rainbow castle was Unicornia.

I think it'd have been neat to see the others.

I was also taking note of the Breezies--in the Princess Promenade, Zipzee mentions spring allergies, and in The Runaway Rainbow she has fall allergies. Considering Breezies LIVE in flowers, this could be rather difficult--and it also brings up worrying implications about what happens to them in winter.

Cheerilee mentions Rarity was selected among a bunch of other young pink unicorns to be the Crystal Princess. We don't hear of any prior princesses but the rainbows seem to have gone off without a hitch every year before her. I also noticed that the ceremony, when performed, grew her horn so it'd be like the others', as a rite of passage.

The Ponyville castle drawbridge reminds me of the G2 style.

A couple G3 ponies never got toys at all. This is of Fiesta Flair and an ice-skating pony who may have a toy; I don't know.

Okay now I really want to watch some G3 cartoons! I don't think Netflix has any though Just FiM stuff. While I enjoy those.. I think G3 has more of a My Little Pony feel. If that makes sense.

Even G3 had "Changeling" clones and BG ponies that never had toys, you learn something every day!

The only problem is, Meadowbrook's symbol isn't just a big dragonfly like that, but a dragonfly flying away from a flower, much like Silly Sunshine's.  I wonder how many of these images were based on prototypes for toys still in development that then never got updated for the cartoons, like how Fiesta Flair is considered a prototype for Candy Apple, or whatever happened with G4 Cheerilee and Princess Cadance's symbols.  Gem Blossom threw me because her toy's symbol doesn't have the stem on the big flower the way it does in her artwork.

And G3's Applejack is red, but in all her animated cameo appearances, she was changed back to a dull orange.  My only guess is this was to make her look distinct from Forsythia, who had been made into a background character first.  (Though if you can't see green well enough to tell Applejack from Forsythia, you may have just as hard a time telling an orange Applejack apart from Bumblesweet, so I still don't really see the point.)  Hopefully someone can find a good screenshot of G3 Applejack that shows what I mean, because you have to get a close enough look at the checkered square blanket in her symbol to be sure it's her.

I'm still peeved they didn't make all those cool unicorns and the background pegasi from "Friends Are Never Far Away".  Especially the unicorns, though.  I was not impressed when they instead made Garden Butt, the most generic unicorn of them all.  (Can't remember her name, but she's that G3 pink-almost-purple color with a floral symbol.)  I'd much rather have had lime green Cloud Unicorn or orange Ladybug unicorn.

It's true a lot of the ponies the OC mentioned did actually get made into toys (yes those ponies in the cartoon are Glitter Glide, Gem Blossom, Meadowbrook, and Moondancer), but yeah I can see why you'd be confused because as Bag of Magic Food said, some of them don't look exactly like their toy counterparts.

But that's a long standing MLP tradition. After all, the Twinkle Eye ponies in the G1 cartoons have hair colors that don't match their toy counterparts, and of course you know all the complaints about the G4 toys not matching! Things change during production, that's all.

(I never heard Fiesta Flare turned into Candy Apple though! In fact I'm pretty sure Candy Apple came out before Fiesta Flare was shown in animation.... The only thing they have in common is a yellow body and red hair.)

Would people like to see MOAR SCREENSHOTS? I used to have a screenshot thread here on the Arena and would take requests for specific shots when the G1 and G3 animations were first coming out on dvd years ago! I have over 200!
