How to make Perfume Puff Hair with Yarn

So I have seen a lot of newer members wondering how this is done and thought I would re-post this to the new arena so it would be easier to find

I recommend Acrylic or acrylic blends for the softest yarns with a good poof and not as much fiber loss.
Pick a soft fluffy yarn, often labeled as 'bulky' you can simply buy the colors you want or get white yarn and dye it yourself- I dyed mine with rite dye by simply letting it soak in the dye till it was the designated color then dipped it into vinegar (to set the dye- water will just wash it all out) and let it cure in the sun.
Cut your yarn into 25" (63 1/2cm) peaces, it takes about 40-50 total for a G3 and around 80 for a G1. one normal sized thing of yarn should do 3-4 ponies. I used 20 strands for a G3 tail and 25 for a G1 (you may need to widen the tail hole a little)

rehairing tool

I made this one because the one I had before was much to small for this job. The one I used was a large Tapestry needle and is a full 2" (5cm) long.
Note: because of the size of the needle needed, a pony with hard plastic may need to be heated up to soften the plastic before rehairing to avoid splitting plug holes. also when plug holes are very close together (as they are on most G3s) only put hair in every other one, otherwise you will split plugs- don't worry the hair will still be fluffy enough to fill in the space.

Thanks for the tutorial! Too bad there doesn't seem to be good acrylic yarn here I've looked for it in every store that sells yarn but no luck, it's always "hard" acrylic yarn or no acrylic at all.
