All of my commissions come from my Tumblr account. I sold one pony here. And a couple on ebay have sold, but only at my minimum acceptable prices really.
When I first started selling, I focused on spreading the word. I did a few G4 ponies and submitted like crazy to anywhere featuring FIM stuff. I went to various boards and linked to my tumblr and commission stuff.
Any place I could find to pimp my work, I submitted it there for show, with a link back to my website.
My Tumblr showcases a pony a day, with a G4 showing every other day since it's popular right now. I just search DA and use the link to share it on tumblr if the artist has sharing allowed. If not, then I don't share them, as that would be impolite.
I mix in my own work, finished and WIP with these. I answer questions on customizing, and hold contests every so often. I have about 250 tumblr followers. Not a big number. I average about 1k views a month. I've worked hard for these numbers and thanks to that, I seem to always have a commission to work on. And if I want to sell a pony at a set price, I have a group of people to market to. I have only sold on Ebay out of curiosity to see if something would get more than my flat rate. Once it did, and once it did not.
I don't know if that is helpful information, but it is an alternative to eBay, Etsy, and DA.. It just involves a lot of work to set it up.
