Rehairing advice?
« on: August 06, 2012, 10:01:44 AM »
Well I finished my first custom ages ago and I was meant to post here but I forgot.

When I rehaired (with a rehairing tool) my pony I found that the hair was going in unevenly. Like some hair would stick out because it wasn't the same length and the rest of the hair would be uneven.
Do I, when I'm measuring the hair, have to double it and fold it in half exactly?
Sorry I don't have pictures I'm in Turkey atm. I hope you understand.

Thanks.

when i use the re-hairing tool i take the hair which i want to put through the hole and i generally try to fold it in half and put it in the tool so that when all the hair is in it is the same length, i also when im done, snip of any pieces of hair that are really long compared to the rest to so i have an even and tidy hair line

I agree.  Even with the needle and thread method, or the rerooting tool, I always have to even out the hairline.  I find it handy to plan on snipping one to two inches off the finished pony so I add a little extra in the beginning.

The best way to resolve this is to rehair about an inch longer than you want the hair as this will enable you to trim the hair to the desired length. Also try and get as close to the centre of the plug to give you even ends. I always add the extra inch with every method of rerooting as it just gives you that little bit of play. :)

Thanks for your responses guys.

So say if you wanted the hair to be 12 inches long, because you have to half it, would you have to double the length to 24 inches? (25 to add the extra inch)

26, because you need that extra inch on each end.
