oh cool!!! ok i didnt really get how they worked i was thinking *maybe* like seasons er something.
so you mean you just ran over to your catalog collection and thumbed through for my ponies?! first of all thats awesomw of you to do! and secondly, JEALOUS!!
Oh course sweetie! No problem...happy any time to look at pony catalogues...
The catalogues give the years releases and unfortunately dont break down "summer" or "fall" or "june" or "september" specifically...each year's line will have been available for retailers to buy at the same time - i.e. a buyer could order a stock of Twice as Fancy as well as Twinkle Eye as well as So Soft all at the same time. Although it is probable that delivery of sets was at different times - this could have been at the decision of retailers or the suppliers or a combination - or it is also possible that they would just stock with the full line [or the elements of the line they decided to carry] at the start of the year and then order more as and when required throughout the year.
It was a little stricter back then than now - now a Toy Fair catalogue will show you the sets which are initially available - just look at the 2012 Toy Fair, there were ponies on display and in the feature catalogues which were already released and there was no mention of some ponies which we now know are coming [also they didnt have anything past the Twixie/Lyra brushables and I would hope we ll get at least another wave of brushables before the end of the toy year]. Whereas in 80s and 90s [and earlier] toy catalogues, all the sets from that year would be featured. Also seldom was there a continuing "wave" of the same type of pony - some sets had a second release but outside the playsets most items only hit shelves for a year or 2 each. Therefore retailers wouldnt accept "another wave of playful ponies" as instead they would be getting a different set so needed to be aware of what was coming [and the price point of course].
*Hides catalogues from Ninja Party*...yup most of the US ones and the later UK ones - I love them, I am a pony paperwork hog! Seriously I wonder if there is more value in my accessories and paperwork than in my ponies some days lol
