Book print on demand question.
« on: July 13, 2012, 06:04:32 AM »
Maybe this should be in the off-topic thing, but I really want help from artist who did this ! But please move this topic if it's still wrong to be here xD

Copy/paste from dA forum:

I'm thinking about printing children's books using print on demand services, so that I can order a bulk and sell them myself in conventions and the like.

Has anyone done something like this before? What are the best services to you regarding pricing, shipping and quality?

I'm in the UK, so any info regarding these services locally would be a godsend.

Thanks in advance ! :D

I could help if they were Kiwi, but not that far away :( I suggest getting quotes from printers, and sponsors. You'll need a final product and time first though.

They also need to decide if it's a colour print or not. Have they printed before?

Oh no, I'm not even started with the book yet ! But I am just looking around to see what the best options would be, just so I have a rough idea of how to deal with the book from the start. It will still take a looooooooong while :P

Be very careful with print-on-demand companies. There are great ones and not so great ones.

Here's a good place to start with info:  http://www.sfwa.org/for-authors/writer-beware/pod/

A review of three services:  http://insig.ht/2009/06/print-on-demand-review/

And this website has several scam stories involving print on demand companies, AuthorHouse, Publishing America and Trafford.  http://accrispin.blogspot.com/
