The Extreme Restoration Project..
« on: May 28, 2012, 07:06:26 AM »
Slugger - previously thought to be Lightning. Innards look pink, but he seems permanently stained orange now. Had several poorly applied layers of orange paint. Eyes are actually pretty good. Took 2 hours to get the paint off.

Little Flitter. Has some felt tip eyeliner going on. Was spray painted silver. Apart from the pink around her eyes, really good and her original symbol and nose marks were removed cleanly.

Powder, dyed a darker purple, hair and all. Symbols need restoring but looks quite nice in her darker shade.

Powders body, sans head.
Merry Treat, sans head.

Sundance, marks and doodles. Bleach time.

Applejack, not too bad. Just hairless. Have enough tails I think to do a reroot!

Peachy. Got her tail, and possibly enough on one that's been used to do a root..

Yum yum, few stray stains, head cut off straight and not at the plug..

Forget me not , couple of regrind spots on NDS and a haircut. Has been dyed in the same bucket as Powder!

Birthday Magic Light Heart. Just missing the crystals in her eyes (What colour should they be, purple?). Pin pricks to back leg.

G2 Princess Twinkle Star, missing half her mane but they seem to have cut around the tinsel.  yellow regrind.

Majesty...dyed blue. Badly. Badly enough that when I chucked them all in the sink, most of the dye washed off. Still blue, though. Large uneven patches of dye. Not salvageable. No more dye will take unless it's black.

Majesty, ivoried, still half covered in white paint.  Discovered masses of orange spots under the white paint. Dubious as to ability to do anything with her. Strong peroxide bath prescribed..

All the G1's are minus hair. I've got several tails that I'm not sure belong to the above.

Shopping list:
White hair
Pussycat (got some on order already!)
Electric Banana
Whatever pink Twinkle Star is..

I've just come up with a brilliant idea for customising Sluggerning. He's never going to be Slugger again and he's all beat up!

Someone tried customising then decided it wasn't their thing. A lot of the hair holes on mose of them are split through, so going to have to seal those and repierce them.

Also, because it's been hot here, the paint on Sluggerning and Majesty was sticky. The blue dye on Majesty (looks black in those photos) came off on everything as well..

I need a big vase and some peroxide. And some plastic weld to fix Yum Yum's head..hope it works on ponies..

Now have a pile of tails, all detangled and conditioned. Think they'll need another dunk overnight.

The painted Majesty is covered in orange dots. I'm finding the orange paint that was on Sluggerning really really does stain.

I'm a bit concerned about trying to fade the marks on the coloured ponies - YumYum only has a couple of marks but they are refusing to budge. Apart from the stains on most of them, the eyes and symbols are fine! What to do..

I remember seeing this lot on ebay months ago - Slugger painted orange is what twigged my memory.

You've got a major job there - are you planning on restoring them to near enough their original condition? Or like in Slugger's case (permanently stained orange) just turning them into customs?

Please remember to take photos - we love progression photos ... well I can't speak for *everyone* [sorry ponies] but *I* love photos! :D Best of luck to you, this will be a lesson in patience indeed  :)

 People are free to do anything with their own ponies, of course, but this is a bit... I became even more against customizing G1s, really.
Good luck with your restoration!

Well. I know RainbowJuice needs a Sundance for her custom, so once she's stainfree she'll be headed that way. Slugger will be becoming a custom sortof. Debating spraying him orange so he has a decent finish, he is really beat up.
The others it would be nice to restore. (Am now accepting donations of appropriate hair  )

I'm going to paint over the eyes and symbols (or entire pony where needed) with cheap paint ala tarjins guide and set them up in the window next week while I'm away.
