G4 will die out because of the lack of diversity in the toy line, and the well of inspiration for the TV show drying up. I'm guessing 2 more years of G4, and then the next revamp will happen. I hope they steer away from the all-girls approach and make it gender neutral; as much boy ponies in the line, as girl ponies. A blue, yellow, purple logo. Either that, or a return to G3 "lovely updated"...

Hehe. I suggested as well recently that G4 would have a limited life span and that the bronies would disappear with the show. I'm sure you can guess what kind of reaction I got

Sadly I think a future line would be much like the other crappy toy lines that are out these days.
Poor quality and all imagination stripped out.

I think we can all agree that G4 will last for as long as the show does.  Whether that is 1 to 3 more years, I don't know, but I don't see it lasting longer than that.  I can't think of a cartoon that wasn't more strictly adult oriented that last more than 3-4 years.


As to what the newest incarnation will look like..well, it could go several different ways.  A lot of toys seem to be influenced by anime these days (large eyes, etc.)  So I would say that if there is any significant shift in animation in the next few years, the design for most toys (including MLP) will follow.


I just hope that they don't try the G.3 ponyville thing again.  I personally, prefer my ponies to be more horse-like.  I really didn't like figures that look more "humanized."

G4 will die out once the show dies out. and g5 will probably look even less like ponies than g4, and probably have twice as much pink. i have an image in my head of what g5 may possibly look like, and what a tv show of it may be like... it doesnt look good to me.

I agree that G4 will probably will go with the show, or 1-2 year after show ends.
My hope that G5 will return to a bit more real-pony look, like G3 did after G2.

Meh. Almost all gens lasted about 10 years so i don' t see this ending just yet.
Neither do i see the toyline end because the show ends. The toyline has existed without a show just fine and i imagine the show being on rerun for some time. It's far too early to talk about G5.
There is also no way to predict how G5 will look.

Yup and with FIM being quite popular i assume we (at least) have still 5 more years to go. I hope by than we will have had more than 2 poses, ha. Seriously, to me it seems G4 has just really started.

My favourite ponies are G3, I'm not so keen on G4's but have ordered a couple    I hope G5 will go back to being like the older gens design wise...

I think G4 still has a while left, even if the show loses steam. I agree that the brony crowd will die out with the show, and I don't know if bronies are boosting sales as much as it may seem anyway so I doubt it will hurt Hasbro much if it happens. I see a lot of folks complain that the toys aren't show accurate, after all.

Hopefully Hasbro feels that MLP is worth continuing into a fifth generation, and I'd love to see what the next redesign is.
