I've been searching Targets for the 3D erasers and pencil toppers and happened upon these today:

I'd heard about them being found individually at Party City (minus AJ) but had no luck there.  They come two to a package for $2.99 and were found in the trading card aisle.  They're packaged randomly, but you can see which ones are inside.

I thought they were not suppose to be released until October, and only online.

They are popping up all over the place- the release date was October, but release dates are usually a guess-timate so I'm not surprised they are popping up early in places.  I think "not available in stores" just means that they can't necessarily be found at all (or even most) stores yet.  Still waiting for both my preorder and/or for them to hit my local stores...

For anyone looking for the erasers- they are over near the comics and cards (like WOW and Magic and collectors cards)- I'm just saying because I searched ALL OVER the store for them only to finally find them there, near the check out line. Sheesh...

MOSTLY although Rarity is tough because of the horn.  Also the pegs seem to have a slightly larger head and hair pegs for some reason, so you have to trim the pegs down a bit to squeeze them on...  still they mostly fit, and look so great! It has made me want to get more ponies so that I can have "new characters" lol

I really hope I can find those erasers soon.  I always check the trading card aisle at Target and I haven't seen them yet. 

I'm also hoping I'll find the snow globe Celestia and Luna figures.

The erasers were in the trading card area in my store as well, and those pencil toppers were oddly enough in the Halloween section. So you could check there as well.

Yeah, the pencil toppers are always in a weird location.  When I first found them a few weeks ago, they were near the backpacks hanging on the wall aaaalll the way in the back of the store.

Still no luck with the erasers, I looked again today.
