What type of ponies did you go for when you were a kid?

To me, color didn't really matter when I was little. I didn't care if the pony was pink or blue :p The ponies I wanted most were the Twinkle Eye ponies (I was sooo into jewels and sparkly things, still am, lol) And I also wanted ponies that I saw in the cartoon series. Even though I thought BBE ponies were kinda scary, I treasured my Baby Lickety Split and Baby Lofty! My poor Lickety Split had rusted eyes, tail rust, and fried looking hair, but I loved her because of her role in My Little Pony the Movie.
 
I thought of this because of the pink Princess Celestia. To me, even as a kid, having the pony look like the character on tv was so much more important that having a girly colored pony. Pink just didn't matter to me :p

i lOVED the flutter ponies!! from the cartoon AND the toys!!
they were just so lovely and graceful and slender in the show
and then the toys, i just ove the poses and iradescent wings... anything sparkly right?!

whats funny is as a collector i cant stand flutter ponies.... never owned one in my collection... ever
 go figure!



i also remember liking the pearly MO babies my neighbor had, and TE's
gimmie more sparkle!!!

Most of the older G1 ranges I grew up with, so those were what I saw in shops. And I thought all the special features on them were awesome.

Baby ponies, I loved baby ponies! Especially if they had rainbow hair

My twin sister was crazy about TE's too! Her favorites was Fizzy and Galaxy.

For me it was all about yellow pegs! I loved all yellow ponies, and Applejack. But Lofty was my big time favorite!

Haha Rel, me too!  I was so into Flutters as a kid until they decided to make wingers.  It was pretty much all over for me then    I was literally obsessed with them and tried so hard to get my hands on a Lady Flutter.  Sadly, she never arrived in my childhood herd, but I have more than made up for it now.  I have just recently started collecting flutters again, but I don't have the same passion for them as I do wingers.
As I kid, my friends and I loved Firefly and Applejack!  Maybe it had something to do with the movie.  Actually, I was just at a bridal shower on Saturday night, and my friend noticed my winger cell phone case!  She told me that she still has all of her childhood ponies stored away in the basement of her parent's home.  She is my friend who just lost her mom, so I'm hoping that when she is feeling up to it, her and I can go through her old box of ponies and remember our childhoods!  Wow, what a wave of beautiful memories just hit me:)  Thank you sweetie for starting this terrific thread!

From what I can remember, my childhood collection was a little random. Most were gifts and a couple I'm sure were second hand but out of the 7 or 8 ponies I had I remember 3 having fruit symbols (and I lean towards those now somewhat) Cherry Treats and Strawberry Surprise are the only ponies I vaguely think I might have picked out myself at the store. So I'd guess fruit ponies were my favorites.

I remember having more neon-coloured ponies as a child.  I always went for the brightly-coloured, typical '80s neon ponies.  I never had sets, or ponies that were exclusive to sets.  When I was young, my mom would give me about $5 every Friday (her pay day was my "pay day"), so I'd always get what I could for those $5 lol.  Me?  SAVE my money?  HA!

I was not a pony collector as a child but I have no doubt I would have gone for the so softs - who doesn't love a fuzzy pony?
