Retrodolls Hair
« on: May 07, 2012, 02:39:02 AM »
While browsing the web I found another doll hair site called retrodolls.co.uk. This is for people who live in the UK. Because the only site I was told I could order from was mylittlecustoms.com.
Retrodolls is £2 per hank (cheaper than mlc.com :P) but has less colours so I will be sticking to mlc.com. I did order a hank and it seemed alright. But who am I to judge, it was my first hank of hair lol.
I just thought I'd share it with you since it wasnt on the list of where to buy hair from (or where not to ^^')

Yeah Retrodolls are a very nice doll hair seller! I recommended them here on the arena a few months ago. ^_^
There are however a few buts about them. Some of the older nylon hair colors are sold with the newer ones, making them indistinguishable. The older ones are a different type of nylon which resembles Restoredolls hair and the newer is similar to dollyhairs.
Also, the newer nylon can be hard to style, it dont react as easily to water as dollyhairs, it is quite resistant so it needs boiling water to lay flat. I have yet to test how well it can be curled with hot water.

Are the hanks of hair the same size as my little customs and dolly hair? The price seems too good to be true :)

Wow, I have been wanting to get more thermal hair in different colors (my previous thermal hair is from Dollmore). I made an order to Retro Dolls today, I hope everything goes well :)

i've ordered from retro dolls uk, and i'm in the us. the shipping was fantastic for timing even over seas, and the hair is amazing. i can't wait for the sister site here in the us. i love my options and i'm always bouncing between restoredoll and dollyhair as it is. this just adds one more to the mix ^_^

Can someone confirm for me that this is actual nylon hair? I remember someone saying that it was actually polypropylene hair being marketed as nylon - has anyone tried dying it?

I have both pp from Dolly hair and Retrodolls nylon and they are not the same, the nylon is harder to style than normal nylon but it dont have the feel of pp...
What the person you heard it from, might mean is that some of the nylon hair is Restore doll nylon which is very different from normal hair. the site sells both types on the same page which makes it hard to know which nylon is which.
I do think its possible to dye retrodoll nylon but true pp dont take dye at all.

That's why I'm asking. I was told that the hair from this site does not take dye. This is kind of important for me to know because I like to have the option to do custom dye jobs. ;)

Hey all, I'm the new owner of the US site, yes, our hair is actual nylon hair, I will check with Melanie (the owner of the UK) to ask about dying the hair. As for the older hair on the UK site, it was supplied by Restore doll, but there are asterick symbols (*) beside those hanks. The UK site is no longer buying nylon from them, so once those are sold, they are gone for good. The US site will not be stocking those colors. Right now our website is under construction, it should be up by the end of this week, however we do have our facebook page up- if you like the page you get entered in our Grand Opening Drawing for a custom pony by me (there will be lots to choose from!). Right now we have 31 shades of nylon, 8 shades of saran and a special Pink Fizz saran that is pink saran with tinsel, and my favorite, thermal magic Moonbeam saran which is blue to white changing. We hope to get more colors in and the UK site will also be getting some new colors as well! I'm looking into everyone's questions, tonight I am boil perming some nylon and the thermal saran,  as well as dying some of the hair, so I will let you know how it goes. I'm personally very happy with the quality of our hair, since I customize quite a bit, I wouldn't sell anything that I wouldn't use myself.

@AlexK- our hanks are 38" long, My Nylon is more like Dollyhair than Restoredoll it is light and soft and takes a curl. Our UK site also sells hanks in large and XL format.

Eventually the US site will stock some of the other extra goodies and I'm hoping to get kanekalon and mohair. We also have a section where we will be selling doll and pony baits, and a section of vintage toys, books, collectibles, etc.

Please feel free to contact me (or Melanie at Retro Dolls UK) with any questions or concerns you may have. We're looking to hopefully open on the 18th of this month :)
