sketchy sketchy...
« on: March 08, 2012, 05:02:46 PM »
Mmmm... I don't usually draw people... I'm terrible at them! But I sat down at the table with my girls the other day while they were doing some colouring in and grabbed some scrap paper and a couple of pencils and doodled. I came up with a fairy?

Anyway, I kinda liked it? And my eldest helped finish it off with a couple of scrawls through the dress... oh well!

She's lovely, especially if you don't draw people often.  :)  How old are your girls?

Thanks Zenna  :)

My rugrats are nearly 3 and 3/4, and 2 and 1/2  :)   Trouble, both of them! They both like colouring in, and when I drop my eldest off to kindergarten, the youngest heads straight for the painting table each time - might have a budding artist in the works!

When I went to art school I did fine with the animal unit. When we started drawing people I thought I would go insane. There is a big difference between drawing a person like figure that looks like a real person in such a way that you almost drew a photo of that person..and then there is the picture you draw of a person that is cartoon like or character sketching. Your type is the kind I like to draw...fairies are wonderful and she is perfect. I love her.  So I would say yes you can draw people..you just present them in a different way its not like a lifelike human image drawing that you can't tell was drawn..its another form of drawing people and both take talent.  I love that. I love fairies so much.  The oldest artist you have there must have had something in mind with the sketch..that she felt it needed ROFLOL.  Don't you just love it when kids do that? Wait till your cat does it. My cat loves to watch me sketch and, he bats at my pencil until I want to scream. He has messed me up several times.

Hey, thanks for that, Tulagirl, what a cool and interesting response  :)     I really liked your suggestion/comparisons. I think I've always had a personal expectation that my 'people' will be the former of your suggestions, so I get frustrated with faces particularly. Expression is so important to capture and the human face is so complex! I think I need to relax more, and I like the idea if playing with your second suggestion - character sketching! I need to relax into that, and try to practise people more... it might not necessarily make perfect, but I guess it will create more confidence and ease with it  :)

Awwww  :)  That's a fun age.  And it's awesome that they love coloring and painting, it's such a great outlet when you're a kid (or a grown up for that matter!)

Thank you!    :)
People are waaaaaay out of my comfort zone drawing wise! And I'm sure you're not terrible! I was just playing with lines and colours with that wee sketch. I'd totally recommend doodling (either in lecture books or when you're avoiding something at work!!). It's fun to see what you come up with!  :D
