How do you un-stink a pony?
« on: March 07, 2012, 07:17:37 PM »
I recently won an auction lot of ponies (a mix of G1's and G3's) and they all stink of smoke. I've given them the whole spa treatment, and while they dont smell as bad as they did when I first recieved them, they still have an odor to them.

My main concern is that their plastic is holding on to that smell more so than their hair. Does anyone have some techniques on how to make them smell pretty (or at least not as bad)?

You can use dryer sheets, but be careful. I've had dryer sheets remove paint. I stuff the sheet inside the pony if I can get the head off.

The other option is baking soda, I've never tried it myself, but others have.

I also use Oxyclean baths, which does help de-stink ponies.

Ditto!! I would second the dryer sheets and the baking soda!

 Best of luck!

You can try taking some activated carbon charcoal for aquarium filters, pouring some into an open container and then tying said container up together with the ponies next to it inside a trash bag for a few days. It really helps when it comes to removing odors, especially smoke.

Good luck!

Baking soda worked for me as well.

I'd agree on the baking soda method. I've never tried this, but supposidly a trip to the deep freeze will remove odor...
