I've about had it with sellers pictures on ebay
« on: March 03, 2012, 04:16:18 PM »
So I did again.  I bid on an auction that had two ponies in the picture, and then after I bid, and looked at all the items the seller was selling, and I noticed the ponies are in  two separate auctions.  I am sooo sick of this.  Sometimes you just get excited and bid, so its partly my fault I didn't read carefully. BUT why can't the seller just take separate pictures?  They did it for all the other ponies they are selling.  Its called cropping.  Anyways, I messaged the seller and told her I'm not paying for it if I win.  Their auction picture is misleading and I think sellers that do this are either a. too lazy to take separate pictures or b. trying to trick people into bidding on their items.  So I guess sending them a message is all I can do, sicne I can't cancel my bid because the auction has an hour left.

EDIT:  Apparently, I could cancel my bid since its more than one hour until it ends.  But I think I will not buy ponies from ebay anymore--its just too difficult.

you could let them know it's misleading and they are leaving themselves open to 'item not as described' returns?

of course, there's also the chance that the lot will have better ponies in it, but they should make it clear which lot is actually for the ones pictured!

Its just two ponies that appear to be a lot - Mommy and Daddy Apple Delight

A few years ago, the first time I accidentally did the same thing it was with the Bright Bouquet family, but actually they were all separate auctions but pictured together.

Part of it is just laziness on the part of the seller as it's obviously less work to only take half as many photos but also I think they are trying to advertise the other ponies that they are selling so that maybe you would bid on all of their auctions. Or maybe they originally planned to sell them together and then changed their mind after they already had the photos done. That's why it's so important to read the details before making a bid!

For canceling bids you can still retract your own bid but you have to do it within an hour of placing it if the auction ends in less than 12 hours. If the auction ends in more than 12 hours you can retract at any time. Here is the help section that tells more about it: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bid-retract.html#long

I find this annoying and misleading too *sigh* :(
There were a few of these auctions on ebay recently..so its always best to read through the auction carefully first .  Maybe you'd be better off  making a wanted thread here for those ponies instead?  ;)

Its very annoying and a little lazy of sellers...and in the excitement its easy to just bid anyway but all I can suggest is make sure to read the description of an auction especially if you have had this happen to you before...you are better to take the time to do that than bid and then have to cancel...

Good luck whatever you decide to do!

I think I know the auction in question... I was looking through ebay and I keep coming across circumstances like this, I never list items like this because it is genuinely too misleading!
Hope you can sort this with the seller!

Offcourse it's important to read full description, i agree.
Still, such kind of pictures are very misleading. I hate such auctions.

I hate when sellers do this or do not add a picture at all.  I understand they may want to advertise another item they are selling but it should not be in that main picture.   It is deceiving!  If you want to do that then take a seperate picture and maybe add it to the very end of your listing to promote it.  Or make a note somewhere in your description that you are selling said such item.

I can't stress though how important it is to read the full description.  Plus I do not always trust pictures anyways.  It could look great in the picture and then you read the description and it should be in the trash. :P

I think we've all bid out of excitement before hun, and I agree it is misleading! I always find it annoying when sellers do this. At least it'll make you remember about this incident in future and prompt you to look further rather that excitement bidding ;) Good luck with a resolution x

there were 2 BIG lots on ebay with the same pic, including some rares, and it wasn't until someone asked the seller about it that they admitted 1 of the 2 lots were different ponies, but they had lost use of a camera, so just put up the same picture for both lots. :/

there's been a few lots recently of mexican ponies, too, where you place your bid, and then pick ONE of the ponies if you are the winner, but that one makes it very clear, lol.  I don't know if they *can* do that, by ebay rules, but  it's clearly stated you are bidding on 1 pony of your choice.

I'm saddened by the fact it is ONLY mentioned after asking.
It should be mentioned by sellers own responsibility.... *sigh*
