Help with rehairing!
« on: March 02, 2012, 09:18:07 PM »
I've been working on my first custom pony and she's all done save for rehairing - but I have no idea how! I've looked through the internet and seen countless tutorials and I don't know which one I'm supposed to choose! Could someone please help?

I use the needle and thread method!

 It's here : http://www.dollyhair.com/reroottipsandtricks.htm

I've done the needle/floss method for my first custom. It took me a while because I was still figuring out plug size. Once you are finished you don't have to use glue if you do it right.

I have also made my own rehairing tool and can go a lot faster but you got to be careful not to put too much glue in the head.

I would say try both if possible and see which one you like best. :)

For my first custom I used the needle/thread method, but then I just made a homemade rehairing tool and it was so much easier. x3

I've used the re-hairing tool method and it doesn't kill my hands like the needle and thread method.

Purchase a large (20-22) embroidery needle, cut off the eye at an angle, and secure in the handle of a razor blade/exacto knife (the type where you can remove the blade). Pop in your plugs and re-hair away!

I stick the needle in an unsharpened pencil eraser to make a rehairing tool.

I use a pen vice as my base and then the needle for my rehairing tool.

I prefer using individually knotted plugs, rethreaded with a needle.  It's not as fast as the poke-from-the-outside and glue method, but it is extremely secure and I don't have to worry about what the glue might do to the hair/plastic over the long term.

I'm a needle/floss kind of girl.  I like that it takes me longer, I know it's secure.  Rehairing is so much fun!  I need more Dollyhair to fill my habit!!

I use a really long beading needle (you can get them from hobby lobby). It works quite well, even if the pony is hard as a rock! I knot each strand and the hair stays in...
