Cancer, or ink?
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:27:47 PM »
I have a Diamond Dreams who might have cancer, or maybe just permanent marker spots? Not sure. Here's a close up shot of her imperfections without any colour alterations.

What do you guys think? Cancer, or someone decided to go 'boop' on her leg and chin with a Sharpie?

Yeah, cancer is the conclusion I came to as well. Though I definitely have less pony experience than ya alls, hence the thread.

I really wish people wouldn't call it cancer, it's just so insensitive. *sigh* but yes, that is smooze (I prefer this term).

She's still a lovely pony though :D

Depends on the plastic, depends on the mould that's causing it...yes mostly browns and dark greys but can easily be in dark greens and dark blues occasionally as well....the colour are the centre of DoctorM's is a brown [or so it appears in the picture!]

Edit...you should boil her to make sure it doesnt spread of course cause otherwise she looks lovely and is such a sought after pony!

This is a really valid point. But I always thought 'smooze' was more inground dirt and pindot. Maybe we need to coin a new term!

Doctor, have you looked inside her? It might be more obvious what it is if you pop her head (assuming you're willing to) and have a look from the inside. Hold her up to a light and you'll get a pretty good view as to whether it goes all thr way through the plastic. If not, I'd guess mold or marker!

It looks green to me, I might need to change some settings :/

Boiling would be a good idea, just make sure she gets fully dried before you pop her head back on, as you probally already know

I think cancer is more brownish, but can look different with that yellow pony colour.
I have Tassles with one mark like yours, im not very sure if its a pindot mold, or cancer or just ink mark, but is really really worrying :(

You can always throw her in the window wrapped in some tinfoil leaving only the spots exposed to see if they fade out a bit....

Ok guys- I'm kind of confused?

Cancer = a type of mold damage in the form of brownish/greyish/greenish/blackish/insert-color-variant-here spot-like markings that appear throughout the pony's body, usually with a darker "dot" in the middle of the spot.

Pindot mold = smooze = ingrained dirt that can be removed with really hot water, dish soap and fingernails. Appears in the form of clusters of small, black or brownish specks on the pony's body, usually near hooves, horns, ears and other raised surfaces subject to more vigorous playwear...

Regrind = pinkish "highlighter"-like spots that show up throughout the pony's body as a result of the deterioration of the various plastics (ie, recycled plastic particles mixed in with newer plastic) the pony is made of.
Is the above correct???

I guess I'll give her a boil. I'm sure there are boiling tutorials on this forum somewhere, I'll work on digging them up, but in the event that I can't  find one, and someone has the particular thread (or post) bookmarked, help me out, will ya?
