Question about shampoo
« on: February 15, 2012, 05:51:43 PM »
So im curious and i hope nobodys gets angry and thinks this is a stupid question but... what is the difference between normal shampoo and shampoo for color treated hair? I use pantene pro-v brunette expressions and my hair hasnt been dyed for years but i love how soft it makes it. I also use regular shampoos since i switch back and forth when i take showers... Ive always wondered and i checked google but didnt seem to find what i was looking for...

Shampoo for color-treated hair is generally gentler on your hair than regular shampoo.  It leaves more of your natural oils in your hair, making it dry out less.

I never knew the difference, but it does make sense - has to be gentler so it doesn't strip out the colouring.

Yep, normal shampoo will especially fade color in semi- and demi- permanent dyes, which are meant to wash out after a certain number of washes. Using normal shampoo can significantly reduce how many washes it takes for the color to fade. Of course, not all normal shampoos are equal and some brands will be fine for color treated hair. Organic and baby shampoos, for example, tend to use less harsh ingredients.

I use always dishwasher soap on ponies and then condition it with a big bottle of conditioner for dull and dry hair. Dishwasher soap is de-greassing the hair and body better! x

This is an awesome idea! I have never thought to use dish soap as a degreaser for ponies! Thanks for the great tip :)

On topic: I probably wouldn't recommend using the brunette shampoo on ponies. When I used that type of shampoo I always found it to be way more expensive than regular shampoos. You can get a cheap bottle of shampoo/conditioner and it will work better :) Also, I think that brunette shampoo deposits a bit of color on the hair (make a brunette more brunette?). Or perhaps that was a different brand of shampoo with a similar name lol.

I actually got this loreal color enhancing shampoo from a friend that i wanted to use on my ponies. I dont think its for any specific color of hair.....

I definately wouldnt use my brunette expressions since its one of my more expensive shampoos ;)
