Question for Breyer Collectors
« on: February 16, 2012, 02:41:08 PM »
Is there any value to the boxes? I have a few that I saved from the 90s (I think) and I am just wondering if it is worth trying to sell or trade them or if I should just recycle them?
The few I found quick are
#266 Cloud
#914 Tobe Rocky Mountain Horse
#982 Sienna
#3350 Misty II, Black Mist & Twister
#475 Pluto the Lipizzaner
#450 Rugged Lark (the release in the 90s)
I may have a few more hanging around too.

Thanks for your help!

I have no idea about value actually. To me, my horses are more valuable out of the box because I can play with them! XD

I would imagine the overall value would be much greater if the horse was actually mint in the box though.

Sorry I'm not much help. XD

They might be if you still have the horses that go in them.  I don't collect items still in box or boxes I generally don't buy them just to save on shipping, but there are probably those out there that would have interest in them.

Recycle them!  The boxes are pretty much worthless unless they're the old style picture boxes from the early 80s and before.  Even those don't add a whole lot of value.  I keep the ones for my porcelains, a few specially decorated boxes, and cut out the info cards that they've started putting on the newer boxes but everything else goes straight to the recycle bin.

The Breyer collecting community is a bit different from the toy collecting one - MIB rarely sells for more than loose and can even go for less on occasion.

Thanks everyone for your help, I will definitely recycle them.

Oh Breyer600 do you keep special edition boxes? I also have the Pegasus box from the treasure hunt a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure I did keep that one as well - all the ones I keep are stored out in the garage so it's difficult to check at the moment.  The pegasus box had a styrofoam insert specifically for that one didn't it?  Those make it safer for storing or moving so I keep any like that just in case.

Yeah the old picture boxes are still looked for by collectors for collector classes and the like.  The newer window boxes not so much.  If you did still have the models and where looking to sell, I would give the buyer the option because some folks do like to have them.  Most of the new models we open except some of the harder to find decos, those I am keeping MIB since I am not much of an original finish shower.

I'd pay a buck for a box for the models I have loose, storing them without breaking ear tips is very difficult unless you twist tie them in a box like how they come. But it certainly wouldn't be worth shipping it. Maybe its just me though. My friend once found me an old 70's shetland pony box and I don't have a shetland yet. I prefer older models so I get them out of box at antique malls and such. I have to put them in non-breyer boxes to store them.

Thanks so much for all your help.  I think I will recycle them all except the pegasus box.  I am not planning on selling any of the breyers and don't really have a need for the boxes.
