How long will you collect?
« on: February 13, 2012, 04:33:22 PM »
I've been doing some thinking lately about the pace of my pony acquisitions...

If I plan to be a lifelong collector (which I do), then I'd better slow the heck down or I'll be buried like a hoarder!  XD  Anybody feelin' me here? I'm almost 32 years old and I've loved ponies my whole life. I only officially got back into collecting 3 years ago. If in 3 years' time I've acquired about 100 ponies, then how many will I have when I'm 82? I'll be the old pony lady in the nursing home whose whole room is shelves of colorful ponies, still an Arena member, still trading and awaiting those bubble mailers from the post office... and I hope I still have the wits to remember all the ponies' names.  Maybe we'll be on G15 ponies by then, who knows?

So I wonder if my fellow collectors have also had these ponderings... have you actually thought through how your collecting will progress throughout your life? Are you in it for keeps? Is it a phase? Do you have a plan for your ponies when your kids are grown, or when you die?

I'll probably keep collecting for a while now. unless Michael Bay makes a my little pony movie then that would probably be the end. he cured me of my love for transformers after all...

Probably as long as FiM goes on, and ponies of characters I like/cute originals are produced. I'm never going to end up with huge numbers, but I reckon I might hit 20-30 before the end. Unless I decide to go for the blind bags in which case 30-40 will be more likely.

I have to at least last until the fall when the new toys come out

I assume as long as there are still ponies I still like and still want.  :)

I've only been collecting ponies for 6 years but I've been collecting Barbies for probably 17 years and I'm still going strong (and they haven't overtaken my room or my life yet.)  :)

Probably the rest of my life, I've loved them since I first saw them in like 1984.  I think some of mine are in my mom's basement, and I have Glory and Baby Glory here at my apartment.

Hmm I think I'll collect to when I have all the ponies from my wishlist. But judging from my latest purchases (I constantly keep getting ponies which are not on the list) I might as well end up with all the G2 ponies :D And I hope to keep them as long as I can (money and room conditions ;)
But there's always a possibility that there will be a generation (maybe G15 ;P) that will catch my heart just as G2 did and the fun will start all over again ;)

I've been collecting for less than a year and I have around 50-100 (depending on what you count as actual ponies). xD But its very unlikely I'll have spending money for years, so I guess its kind of different.

Anyways, I'm going to collect ponies for as long as I enjoy it. And if I stop enjoying it, maybe I'll pack up my collection or something but I definitely won't get rid of my ponies immediately. I'd wait a year or two maybe and see if I missed them or what.

I've been actively collecting since 2002/2003, but the value of the ponies I am after has gone up considerably so I am down to obtaining maybe 2 or 3 ponies a year for the herd :)

The rest that I have obtained have been to clean and sell, or for my Goddaughters :)

I'll be collecting forever. I've even got the plans drawn up to build a room just for my pony collection.

I like to concentrate on a few pony items at a time to keep it interesting.

I'm beginning to think I am in this for the long run, I have a long list and high hopes lol. And at the rate I'm going I'm going to need a room and lots of storage bins. I just started collection again in december and I already have put almost 100 into my collection. My collection will probably go to my daughters, my first isn't even two and already has her own ponies and sure loves my pony shelf! I would slow down, but let's face it, I'm addicted.

Until I don't enjoy it anymore, or the toys don't attract me anymore :3 Or when it stops being so fun watching my son playing with them and throwing Pinkie Pie around the room XD

I probably be collecting for life as many gens as possible. I probably will leave my collection to my daughter. I try not to think about that far down the road but sometimes I can't help it.
