I need help cleaning this pony please!
« on: February 13, 2012, 01:07:43 PM »
okay so i recently upgraded my Confetti and now i have this one that needs to go...but i want to clean her up before i try to sell her.

I've kept her in a baggy for about 2 years now so she wouldnt spread any "disease" to the other ponies.
She has a LOT of brown dots on her and smells moldy.
I opened her up but didnt find mold or rust. However I removed the washer.

What can I do to get rid of the brown dots and icky smell?
Any suggestions are welcome.
THANK YOU!

Baking soda should help with the smell, and it can potentially help with cleaning the spots if they're just surface mold.

Sun fading and peroxide bath (make sure to tie the hair away from the body as chartuese bleeds)

I would cut a circle from foil and put it over the symbols, then wrap her hair up and sunfade her.  Also, replace her tail parts with zipties.

I would not use Oxi-Clean or peroxide because of the glitter symbols, but a good scrub with baking soda on a damp washcloth will get the surface dirt off them.

Best of luck!

I can't really see well on the pictures, but if the glitter from her symbols is gone, I would recommend oxy-clean bath. If she does still have her glitter, I´d try what Squirmy suggested first :)

I have not tried this myself, but I have heard that a vodka bath should also kill the smell. I have some cheap stuff I'm not going to drink, so I'm saving it for smelly ponies... it's worth a try if you have some lying around the house.

She still has some glitter on her symbols so i think im going to TRY to sunfade her first then i might try the other options if that doesnt work.

I did notice today that the yellow in her tail bled around her tail hole and the yellow in her mane bled on the plastic around the holes too.  Will sunfading help this too?

thanks everyone!

Sunfading should help the 'tail bleed'.  I had some massive color variation around the tail end of one of my ponies, and it disappeared completely within a short time of sunfading.  Good luck!! :)

Poor baby! She needs a day at the pony spa. Good luck with cleaning her. She looks gorgeous underneath the spots. :) Confetti just partied too hard.

I second the zip tie idea, if you're going to soak her at all.

I've sunfaded a few dingy white ponies in a peroxide bath with no glitter loss at all! In fact, I sunfaded baby glory and baby surprise and their glitter symbols are fine. I also successfully sunfaded baby Surprise in peroxide by removing her tail and tying her mane up....I actually suspended her in the solution in a large vase by her mane using some white curling ribbon (in case of color bleeding) and she looks fantastic!

The mark look like rust spots to me. Maybe she was sitting on something metal?

A magic eraser can also help to remove marks.

I tried baking soda and magic eraser on the spots. And acetone but none of that helped.

If it is rust, cleaning it will only get rid of the surface grime.  I had to sunfade the rust away, and it really took very little time (and I'm in Canada... and it's winter... so very little sun!).  I wish you luck!  I hope it works!
