Potential Ebay Problem - All Sorted, Happy Ending
« on: February 13, 2012, 12:12:55 PM »
Argh!

I bought some modelling mesh on ebay so that I can make some wings. I did a BIN but it wouldn't let me pay. I tried twice yesterday a few hours apart, but was getting an error message saying that the seller's PayPal was unable to accept the transaction. I never got as far as logging in to PayPal. I sent the seller a message last night saying that I wasn't able to pay and did they have any suggestions.

Today, still not working. I didn't pick up a message from the seller as I was at work, but on my phone I tried to pay again and nothing. I did however notice that it now says the seller is away until March 2nd.

I've just checked now that I'm home and the seller replied to my email. They have said:

Quote
Hello,Paypal are running some routine security checks at the moment and so have put our account on hold. We are hoping to resolve this matter as soon as possible so you can fulfil your payment. We hope this hasn't caused any problems.

Well it is a bit because I was hoping to have the stuff this week; I want to get cracking with these customs. I'm glad that they got back to me, but a bit concerned because I've never heard of PayPal putting a hold on accounts accepting incoming transactions before for routine security checks!

Seller has good feedback - 99.4%, link here -

In two minds about what to do, any advice? It's only a £3.00 transaction so right now I'm more bothered about not getting the mesh in a timely fashion but to buy elsewhere I have to get larger quantities circa £12.

It's posted at the top of her page: This seller is currently away until 02 March 2012, and is not processing orders at this time. You can add this item to your watch list to purchase later.

So I am thinking that you were not going to get it this week.  It sounds like your not going to get it unfortunately till March  >_<   If you need it in a hurry and already having trouble with payment, I would ask the seller to cancel the transaction.  It may save you the headache down the road.

Paypal has been known to dallying with sellers accounts for reasons all of their own in the past; there is no telling why paypal has frozen their account.

I have to agree with ponylady, in this case; I would request to cancel the transaction since you are under time restraints. Hopefully your seller will be understanding in your situation and will be happy to comply.

agreed - its prolly best to cancel if you need it faster, cos even if Paypal let you pay sooner, it sounds like you arent going to get your stuff until sometime in march :yikes:   such a pain for you though , especially if its gonna cost more *sigh* :(  unless maybe you ask  in the customs forum to see if anyone here has what you're looking for?

Thanks everybody.

I've asked the seller whether they think it's still possible to get the item to me by the weekend, and whether I could maybe pay by card over the phone instead. I don't think they have a shop-shop though so probably not possible. If they can't get it to me for the weekend then I'll ask them to cancel.

I have potentially found an alternative from BerryMouse so might not be in such a rush for it. I wonder whether the seller put that holiday thing on because they knew they were having issues with PayPal...

That's a good point Daffy.  She very well could of knowing she could not accept payments.

I didn't think of that but it makes sense.

The seller messaged me this evening to say that the PayPal thing was sorted. They'd missed posting today (obviously I still hadn't paid at this point) but said they'd upgrade to 1st Class and send tomorrow for me if I paid tonight.

I have done, it's only £3 and they have great feedback. I did source an alternative from BerryMouse, but I plan to need quite a lot in the future anyway. :)

Oh good I am glad they got it sorted out and going to make it up to you!  That was really nice!

Who knows with Paypal anymore and their quirky ways?   :(
