Identifying Fakies
« on: February 11, 2012, 08:42:23 AM »
Hi :)

I went out to a charity shop today to check to see if they had ponies (in preparation for the car boot sale tomorrow!).

Turns out they did, but they were G3, but I don't collect them, or know anything about them so I left them be for someone else. But there were also three fakies that I thought looked quite quirkyand thought that they might be fun to customise.

I would however, like to know what they are before I start painting over them =P

One is a baby pony, purple, with a painted on nappy with a grape cutie mark.

The other two are adult sized and have moveable limbs and glass eyes. One is pink with a strawberry cutie mark (and blue mane) the other is orange with an orange cutie mark

Any help at all would be great :D

I'm a pretty big fakie fan, and that baby kind of sounds like a Gigo fakie baby. Not my pic, but does it look kind of like this baby from Google?

If so, then they come with family sets at stores like Big Lots and are common enough that you should be alright with customizing them.

Glass eyes are usually a sign that they are from something very common, but I've never seen one with moveable limbs. Can we see a pic? Usually you should be alright when it comes to customizing fakies unless you're dealing with something sought after like a Rinse n Spit (brightly colored braying horses that sometimes light up) or a Totsy (grinning, squinting fakes with symbols on their necks rather than flanks.)

yeah, it looks a lot like that, but it has designs on its hooves. It has those eyes though for sure

I'll get up photos of the three soon, just got to grab my camera :)

They sound like Simba fakies, very closely related to the US Gigo fakies. Hasbro molds are more liked, but they are very common and aren't too valuable.

Aww, how cute! Like HavACrumpet said, they are most likely Simbas and I realized that after seeing you're in Wales... we have Gigo instead here in the US, but Simba makes a lot of Euro releases so it's very likely that this is what it could be. I'm unfamiliar with Simba though, but I thought that they would be marked?

Anyway, I'm sure you'd be safe with customizing them. Customs with those cute little posing legs will be really cute! I can't wait to see your final project with them!

They are the fakies that supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsburys always seem to sell!

I think Simba is usually marked, but they make fakies of Simba in the UK just as we have fakies of Gigo in the US. Fakies of fakies. They'll be fun customs being that they're posable.
