this is really cool and you know the fact that a machine like this is for sale and under 2,000 USD means that It might not be long before a smaller home version is made and it might not be that expensive! If you think about what this thing dose 1,749 USD is not really that bad

Ive been looking at those for a while - it would be neat to make my 3d models real - also take a look at the reprap machines, you can build them yourself
This youtube video of someone printing fluttershy is awesome :D

My husband finished one of these a few months ago!  It is really neat.  He's printed lots of helpful things.  Including neck plugs from when I was first learning to get them out.  Waiting on the 3rd scanner ;)  Then I can scan the ponies and friends.  The one pony model up on their site, don't work :(

If any one does a 3d model, I'd me more than willing to give it a try!

It's just a 3d printer, right? (Which isn't new?)

There was a company that you could submit your design to, and they'd print your model, and mail it to you...

Sorry, my bad ( my husband is into this "stuff" ;)  We have the Thing-0-Matic 3d printer.

A 3d scanner is something all together different.  It is nice thou, you'd take a white pony (no hair or tail) and scan it in, it would match it.  When it prints out, it is solid, think lego type material.  There are lines thou.  It would take some type of filler to get that nice smooth look up close.  They have lots of different tricks to really clean them up thou.  If you go through their site it is amazing what the printer can do :)  http://www.thingiverse.com/

Yeah the bootleg thing would suck but I think it would take quite a bit of trouble to make a convincing replica since the model printouts aren't hollow. Still that is a mindbender. Wow!

Ah yes.... 3D printers...  :)  They are still relatively rare to find unless your area has a collaborative workshop type of place.

I saw a video of someone who made a wrench with it and it really did do as well as the original wrench with tasks. I even saw one being used in bonus footage of Jeff Dunham's latest DVD Controlled Chaos.
