 I don't think that I'd ever have a collection that big
 I'd want a really big cabinet with glass doors for my customs though

 What does me deboxing my ponies have to do with whether I can have the room?
Om says:
 Well. You know. It'd be totally worth it if they were all mint in packaging.
 But if they're -out- of packaging... a whole room seems a bit much!
 They don't deserve the whole thing *nods*

 I have this vision of my perfect pony space!
 It's one big room but there's like an archway which would separate my customising area from the display, just so they don't get all mucky
 I'd have to have a working sink etc in the customising area and a lot of work space, plus massive amounts of storage
 Then all my ponies would live in the other part of the room
 On nicely lit shelves with a lot of space so they aren't all crammed in
 And I'd have a huge cabinet
 Probably the size of my book case
 With glass doors to display customs
 And I'd have lots of room in there and a sofa and stuff so that I could have pony friends round!
 And there'd be black out blinds and stuff to stop the sunlight damaging my ponies, and a dehumidifier thing

 mostly I'd like to keep them contained in one room
 As I'm sure you would too

 Could we have it so the door is hidden to the outside viewer

 I'm pretty sure that when we first move in together I won't be able to bring them all anyway
 Yes
 With a lock on it
 When we have children I do not want them getting their hands on my ponies or worse, my craft knives etc
 It'd be the attic or something that we just use for "storage"

 I like how you remembered to put knives above ponies there.

 It was a conscious decision
 Instinct told me to put it the other way around
 Self preservation - i.e. the knowledge that you would disapprove - told me to change it
Om says:
 Actually I probably wouldn't have paid attention.

 Bet you would!
 But too late to test that theory now 
 I'm sure that when it came to it I would be more concerned about kids getting their hands on the knives etc than the ponies

 What if they got their hands on scissors and the ponies?!
 Definitely need to lock the door!

Haha, my fiance is very tolerant of my obsession-- but then, we're in a long distance relationship working on a visa for him, and he hasn't seen my whole collection. He has been willing to receive ponies shipped from within the UK (he's in England) and Europe to save me on shipping though.

 I LOVE your idea of having the pony room and customizing/crafting room being in the same area! You should draw out your plans so you have an 'ideal setup' to go off of for when you do get your own place.
 
Hubby and I have talked about what we would do if we bought a house too.  He has already declared that I get my own space for my pony collection, Dinotopia collection, crafting, and online business shipping center.  The trade-off is that he gets his own movie theater/TV room since he's such a movie buff. First challenge: saving enough to buy the house.  Second challenge: fitting all of that into one space! Third challenge: still seeing each other and not getting trapped within our own custom spaces.

OMG I love the idea of a secret door!!!  If I ever get my pony room, I am sooo doing that!  That way it LOOKS like a grown-up's house from the outside, but inside the secret chamber is my special room of ponies and rainbows and awesomeness!
