What flaws do you think must be mentioned in an auction?
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:19:37 PM »
And what improvements or alterations you have made to the pony (e.g. removed tail washer, cleaned inside, hair straightened/recurled...)?

I'm not talking about inexperienced sellers and non-collectors.  What would you expect to be told by another collector before buying?

This is not about a specific auction, just wanting some general ideas.

{Mods: please move to trader support if you think this is more appropriate over there}

Any and every. If a pony has a scratch, an ink spot, a missing plug, anything, I'd mention it.

There should be lots of pics too, so the buyer can decide whether a particular mark is "not that bad" or not.

I'm personally not bothered by a lot of things when it comes to cleaning up/restoring, etc. For example, if the pony was sunfaded and previously had highlighter all over it and tail rust. But now looks great but has the washer removed. I'd still like to know everything! :)

ALL flaws, alterations, and restorations should be listed! Even if it's clear in the pictures. A lot of people find the listing too soon to the ending date to really give a good look at pictures and just read it real quick, or others bid on their phones where pictures are too small or unclear. Other, not so nice people can even take advantage of it and file for a refund for not having some issue listed, even if it's obvious in pictures. It doesn't always go through but it's still annoying to deal with! Long story short, it's always best to take the extra few seconds to list everything.

With everyone. If the seller has noticed a flaw or if there's an alteration or restoration I'd want to know. Clear pictures of the ponies as well... and I'd also like close ups of the flaws and some types of alteration and restoration. Just very clear detailed information really! After all what might be a faint pink mark to some maybe bright and obvious to others.

While I normally would list every flaw, I just sold a 15 pony lot on eBay and I didn't give accurate descriptions of all because they were a bait/restore lot. I said they are not perfect they all have marks and defects. Sold as seen ;) Sometimes I don have time to go through every pony with a fine tooth comb.

If i was buying from a collector I would expect all flaws and restoration to be listed... I would usually double check with the seller if there was anything specific i was looking for, e.g.. if its a pony thats known to have certain flaws and i was looking for an upgrade...
Like everyone has said, good photos really help.  Honest info and pics will help you in the long run to avoid buyers being disappointed or unhappy and any disputes that may cause.  Of course everyones perception of a flaw is different so encourage buyers to ask questions too x

I think all flaws should be listed like if there's missing plugs/tail rust and if the person has restored the pony. I haven't had any problems (yet) with sellers on trademe they are usually pretty good about listing the flaws lol.

I always try and picture every flaw no matter how minor, even though most people who buy from me are more likely to be parents or use them for customizing... I find being completely honest saves a lot of trouble in the long run, collector or not.

Anything and everything. I think the only thing I might not care about is if they've conditioned the hair. By the time it gets to me, it might be due for another. Who knows. But I wouldn't hate not hearing about it.

Oh hey you're right, that's a bit different. If someone specified it as a "bait" lot, I think I would just assume none of them are fit for displaying and wouldn't care about details.

I agree and disagree. If there are chunks taken out of it or something, I'd like to know about those (I saw one on ebay with a chomped nose) that way I can put aside the materials to fix it. Otherwise, I don't care about marks or anything. :D
