AAAAH Don't use Hasbro's elastics!
« on: February 01, 2012, 02:28:13 PM »
My Lulu Luck had very bad hair that was going all over the place. So about two months ago, I decided to use one of those yellow elastics Hasbro uses on certain ponies hair to hold her hair down to her leg. Today I decided that it was held down long enough and took the elastic off...

And discovered that it had left big yellow stains!  :yikes:
I know that its definitely from the elastic, my first Blossomforth has a yellow mark on her leg. Its in the spot where the hair touches her leg in the packaging.

I guess you can still use them, just be very careful that they don't touch the pony's body for very long periods of time.  ^.^

Oh no, my favorite styling tool :( Time to swap them all out for the clear ones, even if they aren't as stretchy.

I use the clear ones without any issues :) The colored ones though, I keep those in their hair.

Be careful of the pink ones too. I've been saving them from various ponies, and my baity Seashell has been "holding onto them" for me... on one of her legs.

I recently removed the elastics from her front legs... and the pink ones left marks on her leg! >.<

THANK GOODNESS I put them on her... and not another pony!

oh my. It seems I have to replace the original elastics :B

Also you can probably fade the stain out by using acne cream. I haven't tried it with G4's but it works wonders for G1's. But you should be careful and test it under the hoof for a few days to see if there is any changes in the plastic.
And the cream must have benzoyl peroxide in it. I use Basiron and Brevoxyl. Basiron is milder, and is better for softer plastics. And combined with the sun it's more effective

Eep! some of my ponies still have the elastics in their hair. I guess I should take them out.

Oh crud! I guess I'd better take mine off too!

....but what about Applejack? >.> They gave her a red elastic to match her red hair tie in the show... I wonder if her hair will have a big red ring on the end... But I guess I don't mind if I just plan to leave it on forever...

Oh wow, that's terrible. I was just about to do some restyling and figured some of those elastics would be a good option. Glad I didn't use them on my G1 babies like I wanted to. Thank you for letting us know! Poor Lulu. :(

Yes this has always concerned me with colored elastics really any brand and even brown rubber bands can cause this. I am so sorry. I only buy clear but if they are left on too long they can also turn things yellow.  You know what I do is I wrap a perm paper around the hair and leg and then I put the elastic on it.  Works great. Argh...huh?

I used Aj's elastic to flatten her forelock/bangs, and it didn't leave any marks even though it sat for few months. But I guess you can never be too careful with ponies.

Ummm..does that include those Silly Band rings? They are a good size for pony bracelets so I have a bunch of them for that purpose.
