Video game price check
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:55:03 AM »
I have a spare copy of Final Fantasy 7 for the Playstation that I'd kind of like to get rid of.  The only problem is that it's incomplete--It's missing the 3rd disc.  I've seen complete copies go for over $100, but I'm not sure what someone would be willing to pay for an incomplete copy.  What do you guys think?

The market on rare and collectible PSOne games has bottomed out, especially after they started releasing them on the PSN. I had a copy of FFVII for sale that I had been trying to sell for about a year, I eventually let it go for $25.

Five, six years ago, the market definitely hit a peak, that was when you could hock FFIII for the SNES for $60, and Chrono Trigger for $80+. Now, the market's bottomed out, and it's not making a recovery. The hardcore collectors are few and far between. With a missing disc, I wouldn't expect more than $20 for it.

I used to work in an independent game store, we dealt in used games a lot. Even there, with the brick & mortar mark up, we sold FFVII for $45, and that was about three years ago. These days, they'd probably slap $30 on it, and it'd sit on the shelf for months.

Doc is right. The cart systems can still go for a bit in the right circles (Harvest Moon still sells at $80+) but not so much for later gen stuff, especially Playstation.

Yeah, hubby said you probably won't get much of anything for it, being incomplete. BUT I'd say there's a change someone might look for an individual disc (say if theirs was scratched and not working) and would be interested in a replacement. Try ebay, or craigslist.

I don't know what you'd get for it without one of the discs, but I recently sold a complete FFVII for the PS at $30.  I decided to hold on to my PC copy instead (those go for quite a bit higher.) PS games are a miserable reseller's market.

I have not a clue, but like others, I think the missing disc may be a problem.

I've seen people selling the discs and cases piecemeal on eBay. You could try snagging a disc three for cheap, or selling yours piece by piece. Sell the discs and case separately. There is a market for that. I had a copy of Xenogears that was missing the back insert, boo! Fortunately, I found Xenogears at a flea market for $3 freakin' dollars. The caveat was that it had no discs. But I didn't need the discs, just the back insert!

There will never be another event in my life that will work out that perfectly.

 An incomplete one will sell for ten bucks tops...25-30 if it's complete and in good condition. Greatest Hits editions (Green cover) tend to sell for less. The copies that you saw selling for 200 dollars were more than likely still factory sealed original black cover editions. Honestly the only people that will be interested in an incomplete copy would be people that somehow *have* the missing disk, which would be unusual. So try and find that disk ^^;

I myself have three copies of FFVII...Two were my husbands from before he met me, and one was mine XD So we also have 2 copies each of VIII, IX, and Tactics ^^; Ahh, combining gamer households...

It's not Valkyrie Profile (original PS) and it's not Suikoden 2 so it won't go for much.  There a few, a very, very few video games that'll get you a decent price second hand and FFVII just isn't one of them - not anymore.

This is what I did a few years back. I too was missing disk 3 (What is up with disk 3?) and had to get one. Except I wanted mine to play not sell. ;p It was only a few dollars on ebay then.
